Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent qualification.
Master's degree or Fellowship in Medical Oncology from a recognized institution.
Valid license to practice medicine in Kenya.
Current registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
Demonstrated clinical experience in oncology practice.
Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Proficiency with oncology information systems and electronic health records (EHR) is an added advantage.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and manage patients with solid tumors and hematological malignancies.
Develop individualized treatment plans including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and supportive care.
Monitor treatment response, manage side effects, and adjust treatment regimens as necessary.
Provide inpatient and outpatient oncology consultations.
Coordinate palliative and supportive care services for patients and families.
Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and case discussions.
Collaborate with surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Facilitate referrals and continuity of care across different specialties and healthcare settings.
Patient Education and Counseling
Educate patients and caregivers on diagnosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
Provide psychosocial support and guidance throughout the treatment journey.
Promote cancer prevention, screening, and early detection initiatives.
Ensure adherence to national and international oncology treatment guidelines and standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation.
Research and Professional Development
Participate in clinical research, audits, and evidence-generation activities where applicable.
Keep abreast of emerging developments, innovations, and best practices in oncology.
Contribute to continuous professional development and mentorship of junior healthcare professionals.
