Medical Oncologist

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent qualification.
  

• Master's degree or Fellowship in Medical Oncology from a recognized institution.
  

• Valid license to practice medicine in Kenya.
  

• Current registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
  

• Demonstrated clinical experience in oncology practice.
  

• Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  

• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  

• Proficiency with oncology information systems and electronic health records (EHR) is an added advantage.
  

• Diagnose and manage patients with solid tumors and hematological malignancies.
  

• Develop individualized treatment plans including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormonal therapy, and supportive care.
  

• Monitor treatment response, manage side effects, and adjust treatment regimens as necessary.
  

• Provide inpatient and outpatient oncology consultations.
  

• Coordinate palliative and supportive care services for patients and families.
  

• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and case discussions.
  

• Collaborate with surgeons, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  

• Facilitate referrals and continuity of care across different specialties and healthcare settings.
  

Patient Education and Counseling

• Educate patients and caregivers on diagnosis, treatment options, expected outcomes, and potential side effects.
  

• Provide psychosocial support and guidance throughout the treatment journey.
  

• Promote cancer prevention, screening, and early detection initiatives.
  

• Ensure adherence to national and international oncology treatment guidelines and standards.
  

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety.
  

• Maintain accurate and timely medical records and documentation.
  

Research and Professional Development

• Participate in clinical research, audits, and evidence-generation activities where applicable.
  

• Keep abreast of emerging developments, innovations, and best practices in oncology.
  

• Contribute to continuous professional development and mentorship of junior healthcare professionals.
