• Basic Salary Scale: Kshs. 31,000 - Ksh 63,500 p.m.

• Duties and Responsibilities:
  

Duties and Responsibilities entail

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:-

• Ensuring the vessel (boat/craft) is maintained to seaworthy conditions as per SOLAS;
  
• Organizing for the safe stowage (anchorage, berthing or mooring) of the vessel;
  
• Navigating the craft safely within the prescribed area as per COLREG;
  
• Operating the machinery and equipment onboard safely as per SOLAS;
  
• Ensuring that the craft's statutory documents/records are updated;
  
• Ensuring timely maintenance of the craft's life-saving equipment;
  
• Ensuring safety of crew, passengers and the craft;
  
• Maintaining the vessel log books;
  
• Supervising the maintenance and service of the boat navigation equipment;
  
• Overseeing the maintenance and service the boat's propulsion machinery;
  
• Maintaining and updating all the maintenance and repair work records;
  
• Requisitioning bunkers, oils and other stores;
  
• Managing records on the expenditure of bunkers and stores;
  
• Overseeing the vessel's inventory for machinery and other materials is updated;
  
• Strictly observe and adhere to anti-pollution policy as per IMO.Reg.Marpol.
  

Required Qualification

For appointment to this grade, a staff must have: -

• Cumulative six (6) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at the level of Coxswain I or a comparable position;
  
• Lower grades typically require:
  
• Cumulative Service period of six (6) years relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at the level of Coxswain II or a comparable position;
  
• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Grade D or its equivalent;
  
• Coxswain I Certificate in accordance with Merchant Shipping Act and its regulations;
  
• Basic Safety Training Course (STCW);
  
• Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than fast Rescue Boats);
  
• Proficiency in computer applications.
