Senior Declaration Officer — Imports & Transit Entries

Senior Declaration Officer role is responsible for independently managing complex imports declarations, transit entries and customs compliance activities. Acts as lead for declarations, provides technical guidance , and ensuring accurate , timely clearance of unbound cargo.

Qualifications & skills

2. Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with imports declarations and transit entries in a freight forwarding/clearing environment.

3. Strong working knowledge of customs rules, HS codes, valuation methods and import documentation.

4. Proven ability to liaise with customs authorities and resolve technical/customs issues.

5. Leadership skills — able to supervise juniors and coordinate stakeholders.

6. Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability and numeracy.

7. Proficient with Excel and declaration/manifest systems; able to produce concise management reports.

8. High integrity, client service orientation and ability to work under pressure.

Key responsibilities

2.Manage transit/waybill entries and in-transit movement documentation; coordinate transit bonds and compliance requirements.

3.Liaise directly with Kenya Customs, port/airport agents, clearing agents, shipping lines and clients to resolve hold-ups and queries.

4.Lead resolution of discrepancies, detained cargo, customs queries and valuations.

6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations, duty reliefs, bonded/warehouse procedures and compliance practices.

7.Support internal audits, client audits and provide technical input on process improvement

8. Prepare management reports on declarations, duties paid, delays and actionable KPIs.
