Job Purpose:

  • Support enhance the quality of the loan portfolio within the Retail Credit function of the bank by use of analytics to guide risk reward driven decision making.
  • The job holder will Head of Retail Credit in driving credit policies, credit scoring, credit analytics, coordinating Credit Risk Operations, support on controls and governance elements across the systems and processes and end-to-end monitoring within the department.


Roles & responsibilities

Portfolio Quality review and optimization:

  • Monitoring performance of Retail Credit Portfolios to identify deviations from benchmarks and giving early warning signals for poorly performing portfolio at the same time identifying opportunities.
  • Support in driving portfolio growth through scaling up portfolio including digital lending within the risk parameters.
  • Extracting, analyzing, and interpreting portfolio data relating Credit Risk processes using statistical and data analysis tools.
  • Providing relevant, timely analysis for current projects and ad-hoc queries such as Credit Risk Strategy changes.
  • Communication of analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences to support decision making.
  • Review of internal credit scoring for retail lending including the digital lending platform on an ongoing basis with strong credit analytics.
  • Benchmarking and trigger setting using strong analytical skills.
  • Supporting the business with portfolio growth initiatives such as cross sells.
  • Review of scheme companies and other Lending programs, allocation of limits, monitoring and periodic reviews.
  • Support collections team in strategy development and with analytics and in providing MIS to inform collections strategies and improve overall portfolio health.

Retail Credit Policy and process reviews:

  • Review of and validation of policy changes and new product proposals and making recommendations.
  • Development of new decisioning rules and system rules/scorecards for retail lending.
  • Supporting credit policy change process using analytics and market insights.
  • Continuous improvements and optimization of Lending systems.
  • Oversee Testing on changes and/or fixes required on the lending systems.
  • Oversee development and oversight over collection strategies and systems.
  • Review, Maintaining and updating credit procedure and policy documents with approved policies and communicating them with stakeholders.
  • Proposing changes to credit processes to ensure proper portfolio management in the entire credit lifecycle.

Governance:

  • Developing governance over the System rules and scoring engine to ensure proper controls.
  • Testing of decisioning rules & scoring parameters to ensure they are working as expected and escalating exceptions.
  • Identifying where there are breaches of policy and putting in place controls and mitigation strategies.
  • Developing and running of exception reports to ensure adherence to policies and escalating exceptions.
  • Oversight and Sampling the approved applications to ensure approvals as per mandates.
  • Coordinate and ensure assurance checks for Retail Credit processes and units are done.
  • Maintenance of policy and process change logs and approvals for retails policies and process.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Engaging and aligning with different stakeholders during policy and system reviews process.
  • Presenting portfolio review results to stakeholders.
  • Training of teams of Retail credit and frontline teams on new policies and system changes.
  • Review of vendors used to support retail credit processes to ensure they are performing as per SLAs.

Academic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in Statistics or Data science related field.

Work Experience & Competencies:

  • At least 6 years of Banking experience of which the last 4 years must be within a Retail Credit Risk environment.
  • Retail Lending analytics experience.
  • Strong analytical and statistical modeling skills and preferably experience in the use of analytical tools and system query language/s.
  • Thorough understanding of the Retail Lending dynamics.
  • Demonstrated success in a similar role.
  • Experience in Digital lending space.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Good Communication & report writing skills & interpersonal skills.
