Key Responsibilities
Business Development and Growth
- Develop and execute business-development initiatives for the Broking Channel in line with approved targets.
- Identify, engage and onboard suitable new brokers in accordance with regulatory and internal requirements.
- Generate new business from existing and prospective brokers and maintain a healthy opportunity pipeline.
- Promote cross-selling across Motor, Medical, Property, Marine, Engineering, Liability, Travel and other classes.
- Follow up quotations and tenders and implement actions to improve conversion rates.
Broker Relationship Management
- Build and maintain productive relationships with brokers and key customer stakeholders.
- Conduct regular broker visits, engagement meetings and performance reviews.
- Understand broker and customer needs and coordinate appropriate, timely and competitive solutions.
- Manage broker enquiries, concerns and service expectations through to resolution.
- Develop joint account plans for priority brokers and track agreed growth actions.
Portfolio Retention and Renewals
- Maintain an accurate renewal pipeline and coordinate early engagement on upcoming renewals.
- Work with brokers and internal teams to retain profitable accounts and recover business at risk.
- Analyse cancellation, retention and loss-account trends and recommend corrective action.
- Support the review of policy terms, pricing and service issues affecting renewal outcomes.
Internal Coordination and Service Delivery
- Work closely with Underwriting to obtain accurate and competitive quotations within agreed turnaround times.
- Coordinate with Claims to support timely resolution of broker and customer concerns.
- Collaborate with Finance and Credit Control to follow up premiums, reconciliations and outstanding balances.
- Coordinate with Operations, Marketing and other teams to deliver broker initiatives and service commitments.
- Escalate service gaps promptly and follow through on agreed corrective actions.
Reporting, Market Intelligence and Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of broker engagements, quotations, renewals, opportunities and production.
- Prepare timely channel-performance, pipeline and premium-collection reports for management.
- Monitor competitor activity, broker feedback and market developments and recommend appropriate action.
- Ensure brokers hold valid licences and that all business complies with IRA requirements and internal policies.
- Maintain complete documentation and adhere to underwriting, credit-control, data-protection and operational standards.
Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
Education and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Insurance, Commerce or a related discipline.
- A professional insurance qualification, such as COP, Diploma in Insurance or ACII, is an added advantage.
Experience
- Three to five years' experience in business development, sales, account management or insurance broking.
- Experience within general insurance or financial services is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to acquire, retain and grow a commercial portfolio.
- Experience managing brokers or other intermediary relationships is an added advantage.
Essential Competencies
- Sound knowledge of general insurance products, intermediary operations and regulatory requirements.
- Strong business-development, relationship-management, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Commercial judgement and ability to analyse portfolio performance and market opportunities.
- Strong customer focus, communication, presentation and problem-solving capability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts, priorities and deadlines with limited supervision.
- High integrity, professionalism, resilience and a strong drive for results.
