About you

  • Degree or recognized international accreditation in a project management.
  • Postgraduate university degree in business management, sustainable development, economics, development studies, peace and conflict studies or related field.

  • The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated expertise in school feeding systems, food value chains, and local supplier networks, with a deep understanding of how schools procure food and engage with market actors such as millers, aggregators, farmers, vendors, and MSMEs. The successful candidate will have experience working with government institutions, development partners, private sector actors, and schools to strengthen sustainable food supply chains and improve nutrition outcomes.

  • You should possess strong knowledge of Uganda’s policy and institutional landscape for school feeding, education, nutrition, and food systems, including familiarity with government-led school meals initiatives and procurement mechanisms. They will have proven experience facilitating market linkages, developing supplier relationships, and embedding quality and nutrition standards within procurement and supply chain systems.

  • The position holder should be skilled in project planning, results-based management, monitoring and evaluation coordination, budget management, and procurement processes, with the ability to translate strategic objectives into effective implementation plans and partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Define project scope, activities and workplan in line with the concept note submitted to partner, and GAIN Uganda business plan.
  • Support KL technical specialist to onboard and coordinate evaluation partners. Provide evaluation partners with a clear overview of planned project activities, implementation timelines, and operational considerations to support alignment between project implementation and evaluation activities.
  • Lead the recruitment and enrolment of pilot schools, including developing selection criteria, liaising with school authorities, and securing necessary approvals.
  • Maintain regular engagement with MoES technical working groups on school meal programmes, supporting the development of national policies.
  • Coordinate with KCCA and relevant municipal authorities to advance progress toward by-laws on food sales and marketing near schools.
  • Work with international finance to ensure that accurate budgets and forecasting are drawn up for all activities, and that activities costs are kept within budgets.
  • Lead the procurement process by identifying, selecting and managing suppliers within ethical and procurement standards and guidelines.
  • Establish and formalise working relationships with partners, clarifying roles and alignment of work during the set-up phase.
