Job Description

We are seeking native or highly fluent speakers of Jamaican Creole (Patois) for a large-scale audio data collection and transcription project.

Project Overview

The overall project scope requires 700 to 1,000 hours of audio data. We are looking for dedicated freelancers to build a long-term working relationship with, starting with a paid 15-minute test sample to ensure quality and alignment with our formatting guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

As a Voice Creator & Transcriber, you will be responsible for both creating the audio and meticulously writing out what was said.

  • Audio Recording: Record natural, high-quality audio in Jamaican Creole. This will include a mix of single-speaker monologues and multi-speaker conversations (with 2 or more participants).

  • Transcription: Transcribe the recorded audio verbatim in Jamaican Creole, capturing the exact words, filler words, and natural speech patterns.

  • Speaker Diarization: Accurately label who is speaking at any given time (e.g., Speaker 1, Speaker 2) for all multi-speaker files.

  • Timestamping: Add precise timestamps to the transcripts according to our project guidelines (e.g., at every speaker change or every 10–15 seconds).

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure recordings have minimal background noise and transcripts are free of typos or missed words.

Requirements
  • Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in speaking and writing Jamaican Creole.

  • Recording Setup: Access to a quiet, echo-free environment and a good quality microphone (a high-end smartphone microphone may be acceptable, subject to quality check).

  • Technical Skills: Detail-oriented with the ability to accurately format timestamps and speaker tags. Previous transcription experience is highly preferred.

  • Collaborative: For multi-speaker tasks, the ability to record conversations with other native speaking friends/family members is a huge plus.

  • Reliability: Ability to meet deadlines and follow strict formatting guidelines.

Project Phases & Compensation
  1. Phase 1 (Paid Trial): You will be asked to record and transcribe a 15-minute sample (a mix of single and multi-speaker audio). This will be paid at a flat rate.

  2. Phase 2 (Full Production): Candidates who pass the trial will be invited to the main project, which contains hundreds of hours of available work.
