Murang’a University of Technology is seeking a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure compliance with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, and to protect the personal data of students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Appoint as Data Protection Officer responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection laws
Serve as the primary contact for data protection concerns and questions
Facilitate communication between the university and data subjects regarding data handling practices
Ensure transparency in data handling processes
Manage data subject rights including access, correction, deletion, and objection requests
Oversee lawful processing of personal data
Implement notification and transparency measures for data collection
Establish and maintain security measures to protect personal data
Ensure the university complies with Section 24(6), Section 26, Section 28, Section 29, and Section 30 of Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019
Key Points of Responsibility
Transparency in Data Handling - Ensure compliance with data protection laws and publish DPO contact details
Data Subject Rights Management - Facilitate rights to access, correction, deletion, and objection
Data Collection Oversight - Manage transparent data gathering processes
Notification and Transparency - Inform data subjects about why data is collected, how it will be used, who has access, and security measures
Lawful Data Processing - Ensure all data processing is conducted lawfully, fairly, and transparently
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019
Understanding of data protection principles and regulations
Experience in data protection compliance
Strong communication skills for managing data subject inquiries
