Industry: Rope Access (IRATA) Services

JOB PURPOSE

The Quality Control / Quality Assurance Personnel is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring quality control and quality assurance processes across the company's rope access operations. The role ensures that all work performed by Team Leaders and Technicians complies with the IRATA International Code of Practice (ICOP), the company's Quality Management System, applicable ISO standards, client specifications, and relevant regulatory requirements, and works closely with Operations and HSE to maintain consistent, auditable quality and safety standards across all projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, implement and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in line with ISO 9001 (or equivalent) and IRATA ICOP requirements.

  • Conduct regular quality audits and site inspections of rope access work and completed tasks to verify compliance with client specifications.

  • Inspect, verify and certify PPE and rope access equipment in line with manufacturer and IRATA requirements; maintain equipment inspection and calibration registers.

  • Cross-check Team Leader and Technician compliance against weekly management feedback reviews, IRATA logbooks and competency records.

  • Investigate non-conformances, incidents and client complaints; lead root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes.

  • Prepare and maintain quality documentation, including SOPs, inspection checklists, audit reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs).

  • Liaise with clients, IRATA, certification bodies and regulatory authorities during audits, inspections and certification renewals.

  • Track and report quality KPIs (e.g. audit pass rates, non-conformance trends, rework rates) to senior management.

  • Support recruitment and onboarding by verifying candidate certifications, licences and competency records before deployment to site.

  • Maintain accurate document control and record-keeping for all quality-related certifications, licences and permits.

  • Coordinate with HSE personnel to align quality and safety compliance programmes.

  • Keep up to date with evolving IRATA standards, ISO requirements and applicable national and international regulatory changes.

QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or Degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.

  • Recognised quality control/quality assurance certification required — e.g. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor/Internal Auditor, ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or equivalent.

  • Willing to learn IRATA rope access preferred, given the operational environment.

  • Additional certifications such as NEBOSH, Six Sigma, or other recognised QA/QC or HSE qualifications are an advantage.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • A minimum of 2–5 years' practical experience in a quality assurance/quality control role, ideally within construction, oil & gas, or industrial services.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting audits, developing and maintaining quality procedures, and ensuring compliance with applicable quality standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience working with IRATA member companies or within height-safety environments is highly desirable but not essential.

  • Working familiarity with permit-to-work systems, RAMS and method statements.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable quality standards (e.g. ISO 9001, IRATA ICOP) and relevant regulatory requirements.

  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and root-cause analysis skills.

  • Strong report-writing, documentation and record-keeping skills.

  • Good communication (English, Swahili) and interpersonal skills, able to liaise confidently with technicians, management and clients.

  • Willingness and physical capability to attend project sites for inspections, including height/rope-access environments (appropriate PPE and induction provided).

  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with quality management or document-control software.

  • High level of integrity, independence and objectivity when reporting compliance issues.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Primarily based at the company head office, with regular travel to project and client sites across Kenya (and regionally, as required).

  • Site visits may involve exposure to industrial, height or confined-space environments; full safety induction and PPE will be provided.

  • Standard office hours apply, with flexibility required to accommodate site audit schedules and project timelines.
