Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum KCSE/ Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
  • Hands-on experience in rolling mills

Experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years
  • 2 Years Specific to the position
  • Manufacturing Industry

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

Language requirements:

  • English

  • Basic Computer skills

Responsibilities
  • Assemble and disassemble work rolls, backup rolls, and chocks in accordance with standard procedures and rolling schedule requirements.
  • Inspect bearings, chocks, seals, and other components for wear, fatigue, or damage using appropriate measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, etc.) and replace worn-out/missing parts as necessary.
  • Clean, lubricate, and replace worn-out parts, including bearings, seals, and locking elements as per preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Install and align rolls and bearing assemblies on the mill stands, ensuring correct positioning and preload.
  • Shot blasting of rolls
  • Maintain detailed records of bearing usage, roll performance, and maintenance history.
  • Operate hydraulic presses and heating/cooling systems used in bearing mounting/dismounting processes.
  • Ensure all tasks comply with safety regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to diagnose equipment issues and propose corrective actions.
  • Assist in inventory control of spare parts related to roll assemblies and bearings.
  • Participate in equipment upgrades, retrofits, and reliability improvement initiatives.
