The Assistant Director Assessment and Outreach at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is responsible for leading the assessment of children with special needs and disabilities, coordinating training for functional assessment officers, and guiding placement in educational programmes. The role also involves spearheading community outreach, awareness creation, and capacity-building for teachers, parents, and stakeholders. Additionally, the position provides oversight for quality management, risk management, and performance management systems within the Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the training of functional assessment officers and teaching of functional assessment subjects
  • Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good citizenship within the Division
  • Lead in the implementation of quality management system and risk management strategies with regard to sound financial management system within the Division
  • Coordinating the assessment of children with special needs and disabilities
  • Referring children assessed to service provision points
  • Guide on the placement of children with special needs and disabilities in educational programmes
  • Initiate functional assessment training for assessment staff
  • Monitor Identification and placement of children with special needs and disabilities in schools and institutions
  • Coordinate awareness creation, sensitize and capacity-build teachers, parents and other stakeholders dealing with children with special needs and disabilities
  • Coordinating community outreach services to create sensitization awareness on disabilities
  • Spearhead the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of a robust performance management system within the Division by providing oversight of the delivery of the annual performance contract and the strategic plan

Required Qualifications

  • Cumulative service period of twelve (12) years' relevant work experience, three (3) of which should be at the grade of Principal Assessor or in a comparable position
  • Bachelors Degree in Education in the area of Special Needs or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution
  • Masters Degree in Education in the area of Special Needs or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution or any other equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized Institution
  • Membership to a relevant professional body in good standing
  • Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution
