GIZ DTC Kenya is a technical cooperation project of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), European Union and Estonia implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in collaboration with Estonia
Development (Estdev) and Expertise France (EF).

GIZ DTC Kenya is based in Nairobi, Kenya and works with the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy. DTC phase 2 builds on existing national digital strategies, experiences and lessons learned from phase 1 of the DTC Kenya and exchanges with partners. The aim is to strengthen capacities holistically for inclusive, sustainable and human-centred digitalization in Kenya, linking all three levels ranging from individual, organizational/institutional to the system level.

One focus of the measure is on e-government systems specifically developing and scaling of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) use-cases and Digital Public Goods (DPG). The Output
focusses on the development of strategic reforms through the implementation of use-cases and also on training experts and managers of the public and private sector towards key topics that are linked to these systems.

DPI/DPG activities in Kenya include:

(1) Development of concrete application examples (use cases) for creating successfully implemented, efficient, interoperable and inclusive digital services and digital public goods.

(2) Providing capacity development measures towards Digital Public Infrastructure among public servants alongside use-case implementation

(3) Establishment of a local Communities of Practise (CoP) consisting of various stakeholders and Digital Public Infrastructure experts to support the implementation of DPI use-case

(4) Providing capacity building and awareness measures towards DPI an inclusive service design among civil servants

Position Overview:

DTC Kenya is seeking a dedicated and motivated Intern to support our team in advancing e-government initiatives within the Kenyan government. As an Intern, you will work closely
with e-government experts, gaining valuable experience in the development and implementation of digital transformation initiatives.


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Policy Research and Analysis:
    • Support the conduct of research on digital governance policies, regulations, and best practices at both national and international levels, including overseeing contract for Intellectual Property research on e-government solutions in Kenya
  2. Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Engage with relevant government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to gather insights, build partnerships, and advocate for the DPI/DPG initiative
  3. Event Coordination:
    • Support the organization and coordination of workshops, seminars, and events related to the initiative. Specific support for the coordination of the launch of the DPI road map
    • Assist in organizing and supporting capacity-building workshops for government officials and other stakeholders.
    • Prepare workshop materials, coordinate logistics, and provide on-site support during workshops.
  4. Research for E-Government Use Cases:
    • Conduct research to support the development of identified e-government use cases that can enhance government service delivery and efficiency.
    • Collaborate with project teams to design and document use cases, including feasibility studies and impact assessments.
  5. Documentation and Knowledge Management:
    • Assist in the maintenance of accurate records of DPI/DPG -related activities, research findings, use case development, and workshop proceedings.
  6. Communication:
    • Prepare and disseminate policy updates, research findings, and workshop outcomes through various channels, including reports, newsletters, and social media.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor's or master's program in public policy, political science, law, international relations, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in digital governance, technology policy, and public administration.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Swahili is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude towards learning and problem-solving.
