The Analysis Intern will provide analytical and operational support to the Security Risk Management (SRM) Hub by assisting with monitoring, research, reporting, knowledge management, and AI-supported analytical workflows. The role will primarily support regional and country-level analysis across Eastern and Southern Africa, contributing to key SRM products and initiatives.

The internship offers the opportunity to gain practical experience in political and security analysis, AI-assisted research and reporting, knowledge management, and the application of emerging technologies to security risk management in an international environment.

The intern will:


  • Monitor political and security developments across Eastern and Southern Africa using open sources and AI-assisted research techniques.

  • Support the preparation of monthly reports, regional risk radar products, analytical briefs, and other SRM publications.

  • Conduct structured desktop research using reliable open sources and AI tools while validating information through critical analysis and source verification.

  • Apply AI tools to identify trends, synthesize large volumes of information, summarize reports, and support structured risk analysis.

  • Maintain country monitoring trackers, indicators, and signals lists to support regional early warning and risk analysis.

  • Support the development and maintenance of AI-enabled knowledge management systems, including SharePoint and other digital repositories.

  • Assist in organizing, disseminating, and filing analytical products and lessons learned.

  • Prepare presentations, dashboards, visualizations, and briefing materials using conventional and AI-assisted tools.

  • Identify opportunities to improve analytical processes through automation and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

  • Support other SRM analytical and operational tasks, as required.


Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Political Science, Security Studies, International Relations, Data Science, Intelligence Analysis, or a related field.

  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills in English.

  • Experience using generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, or equivalent) for research, information synthesis, writing support, or analytical tasks

  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, verify information against reliable sources, and recognize the limitations and biases of AI systems.

  • Strong interest in applying AI to political and security analysis, early warning, and knowledge management.

  • A good understanding of political and security developments in Eastern and Southern Africa.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools is an advantage.

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to experiment with emerging technologies to improve analytical products and workflows.
