GIZ Kenya implements a growing portfolio of projects in the area of trade, sustainable economic development, private sector cooperation, and regional economic integration on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union, and other international partners like the WTO. The portfolio currently comprises around eight partly interconnected projects and initiatives focusing on areas such as sustainable trade and investment, regional integration, export promotion, industrial development, value chain strengthening, green transformation, trade facilitation, and cooperation under frameworks such as the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), AfCFTA, and the EU Global Gateway strategy.
The trade portfolio works closely with Kenyan public institutions, regional organizations, private sector actors, business associations, and international partners to promote sustainable and inclusive economic transformation in Kenya and the wider East African region.
To support the coordination and implementation of this expanding portfolio, GIZ is seeking a motivated Junior Advisor – Project Coordination, Procurement & Communications. The position will support cross-cutting operational, communication, procurement, and coordination processes across several projects within the trade portfolio.
The role is particularly suited for an early-career professional with strong organisational and communication skills and an interest in development cooperation, international trade, sustainability, and private sector engagement. The position offers broad exposure to programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, communication activities, and administrative processes
within an international cooperation environment.
Responsibilities
A.Responsibilities
Supports procurement and administrative processes in line with GIZ rules and procedures;
Supports the preparation, coordination, and documentation of project activities, meetings, workshops, and events;
Contributes to project communication, visibility, and stakeholder outreach activities;
Assists in the preparation of communication materials, presentations, reports, and social media content;
Supports coordination with service providers, consultants, project partners, and stakeholders;
Contributes to general project management, monitoring, and organisational processes.
Supports cooperation and coordination with relevant public institutions, including the State Department of Trade and sector associations;
Coordinates and supports studies, assessments, workshops, delegations, trade fair participation, and other project activities.
The Junior Advisor performs the following tasks:
B. Tasks
1. Procurement and Administrative Support
- Supports procurement and contracting processes for consultants, service providers,
and event-related services according to GIZ procedures; - Assists in the preparation of terms of reference (ToRs), procurement documentation, and contract follow-up;
- Supports administrative coordination of workshops, travel arrangements, meetings,
and logistics; Maintains - Procurement and project documentation in line with GIZ standards; Supports
- Invoice processing and monitoring of procurement timelines.
2. Communication and Visibility
- Supports the implementation of project communication and visibility activities;
- Drafts and prepares communication materials, social media posts, presentations,
briefings, and event documentation; - Supports content development for internal and external communication channels;
- Assists with stakeholder outreach and communication related to project activities
and events; - Supports documentation of success stories, lessons learned, and project results.
3. Project Coordination Support
- Assists in coordinating meetings, workshops, stakeholder consultations, and
project events; - Supports monitoring, reporting, and follow-up of project activities;
- Coordinates schedules, invitations, participant communication, and event logistics;
- Supports knowledge management and filing systems within the project;
- Contributes to coordination with project partners, consultants, and relevant
stakeholders.
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in communications, business administration, international relations, economics, public administration, development studies, or another relevant field
Professional experience
- At least 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in project support, communications, administration, procurement, or coordination functions; Initial
- Experience in donor-funded projects, international cooperation, consulting, NGOs, or the private sector is an advantage;
- Experience supporting events, workshops, communication activities, or procurement
processes is desirable.

Organisational and coordination skills
Strong organisational and multitasking skills;
Attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a structured manner;
Ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
Communication skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to draft professional communication materials and presentations;
Good interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
Digital and administrative skills
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams);
Experience with social media and digital communication tools is an advantage;
Ability to quickly familiarise oneself with internal systems and procedures.
Languages
Fluency in English is required;
Knowledge of Kiswahili is an advantage
