The Job holder

Reporting to the Senior Human Resource Manager will oversee all Environmental Health and Safety matters. Will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and programs aimed at promoting a safe and healthy working environment while also ensuring environmental protection. Work to ensure compliance with occupational safety laws and regulations, develop and implement safety and environmental policies, conduct risk assessments, and promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the organization including implementing programs and trainings to mitigate risks. The job includes developing strategies for waste management, emissions reduction, and resource conservation, as well as addressing ergonomics, air quality, and other factors affecting human well-being within the workplace.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, occupational Health & Safety related courses i.e. NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.

  • Working knowledge of EHS Management systems (ISO 45001:2018)

  • Work experience of 3 years in Environment Health & Safety in a busy environment

  • Working knowledge of relevant labour legislation & regulations; OSHA, WIBA, accidents/Incidence investigations etc.

  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills

  • Self-motivated, passionate, and able to work with minimum supervision.

  • With good problem-solving skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and ERP System preferably Navision

  • Excellent inter–personal and communication skills.

  • Must be a team player.

  • Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision.

  • Responsible for development, implementation and auditing of the Occupational Health and Safety Management system.

  • Carry out risk assessments, workplace inspections and develop health and safety management plans and standard operating procedures.

  • Empower shop floor staff on effective implementation of EHS requirements.

  • Ensure that H&S committees are constituted as per legal requirements and ensure they carry out their functions as required by law.

  • Manage Health and Safety, environmental internal and external audits to meet Statutory requirements.

  • Liaise with external statutory bodies/parties such as Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety on matters relating to Occupational health and Safety and ensure all WIBA claims, and workplace registration certificates are processed on time.

  • Lead in investigation of accidents and incidents in the Company.

  • Prepare Occupational Health and Safety reports on time and ensure accurate reporting.

  • In liaison with food safety team, develop appropriate security policies & procedures that will ensures JFM food defense system is robust enough.

  • Coordinate with JFM’s security team to ensure the safety of personnel, company property.

  • Enforce compliance with relevant security-related policies, procedures & standards.

  • Liaise with site security team in monitoring of the CCTV system, access control, alarms, telecommunication systems, radios, and any other vital security equipment.

  • In liaison with site security generate monthly security, fire reports and returns.

  • Enforce proper management & compliance by contractors on-site.
