Description

This role supports the promotion, research, and extension of renewable and alternative energy technologies, including biomass, solar, wind, and small hydro. It involves data collection, stakeholder engagement, and technology dissemination across counties. The position also contributes to innovation, on-farm demonstrations, and maintaining service provider databases.

(a) Job Specifications

i. Biomass Functions

(i) Collecting and compiling data on Biomass Energy Technologies (bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, charcoal, bio-digesters, fuel wood, municipal waste and agricultural waste) activities;

(ii) Disseminating Biomass Energy technologies (bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, charcoal, bio-digesters, fuel wood, municipal waste and agricultural waste) information;

(iii) Providing extension services on Biomass technologies;

(iv) Promoting Biomass Energy technologies (bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, charcoal, bio-digesters, fuel wood, municipal waste and agricultural waste).

(v) Engaging stakeholders in the promotion of Biomass Energy technologies (bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, charcoal, bio-digesters, fuel wood, municipal waste and agricultural waste);

(vi) Research and development, innovation and technology transfer in Biomass Energy Technologies (bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, charcoal, bio-digesters, wood fuel, municipal waste and agricultural waste); and

(vii) Maintaining a databank of service providers.

ii. The Alternative Energy Functions

(i) Collecting and compiling data on Alternative Energy technologies (solar, wind, small hydros and tidal waves) activities;

(ii) Disseminating Alternative Energy technologies (solar, wind, small hydros and tidal waves) information;

(iii) Providing extension services on Alternative Energies Technologies;

(iv) Promoting Alternative Energy technologies (solar, wind, small hydros and tidal waves);

(v) Engaging stakeholders in the promotion of Alternative Energy technologies (solar, wind, small hydros and tidal waves);

(vi) Research and development, innovation and technology transfer in Alternative Energy technologies (solar, wind, small hydros and tidal waves);

(vii) Maintaining a databank of service providers; and

(viii) Assist on on-farm and on-station demonstrations of wood fuel species, seedlings’ production and management.

iii. Energy Centers Functions

(i) Collecting and compiling data on renewable energy activities;

(ii) Disseminating renewable energy information within Counties;

(iii) Providing extension services on Renewable Energy Technologies within counties;

(iv) Engaging stakeholders in the promotion of Renewable Energy within counties;

(v) Renewable energy research and development, innovation and technology transfer; and

(vi) Maintaining a databank of service providers within counties.

(b) Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

(i) Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines:, Renewable Energy Technologies, Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry, Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Energy, Civil, Water) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;

(ii) Proficiency in computer application; and

(iii) Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
