As a federally owned enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit
(GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.

The Energising Development (EnDev) Programme is a strategic partnership of likeminded donors and partners to promote energy access. EnDev is funded by the governments of Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland among other donors. The Programme is implemented in close cooperation with leading international organizations and key local.
stakeholders. EnDev works in more than 20 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. The Programme is co-managed by Deutsche Gesellschaft fü Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl).

 

Since 2009 EnDev has been promoting access to sustainable energy for households, social institutions and small businesses in Kenya. EnDev supports the Kenyan government’s ambitious goals of 100% access  to electricity by 2030, stimulation of off-grid economic activities and universal access to clean cooking by 2028 Additionally, EnDev Kenya implements a USAID-funded Smart Community Coalition Innovation Fund project for solar e-cycles in the humanitarian context, and also the IKEA Foundation funded Sustainable Energy for Smallholder Farmers (SEFFA) project which promotes energy solutions for productive use among smallholder farmers in dairy and horticultural value chains. In addition, the associated project funded by DGIS and DANIDA, the Africa Biogas Component Kenya is being implemented by EnDev which supports a sustainable and growing market for biodigesters for climate and energy access targets.

EnDev Kenya seeks to recruit a Junior Monitoring, Reporting and Verification Officer who will support the monitoring and evaluation of the project activities, data collection and
analysis and documentation of impacts. Further responsibilities will be support to internal and external communication of EnDev.

The key responsibility of the Junior Monitoring Reporting and Verification Officer is to:

  • Support the Regional Development Advisors (RDAs) of the Western, Lake Victoria, Central and Lower Eastern clusters in the delivery of monitoring, reporting and verification tasks for the EnDev project.
  • Contribute towards continuous improvement of MRV systems.
  • Coordinate the internal and external verification of project results and data.

The Junior MRV Specialist will fulfil the following tasks:

Monitoring

Under the guidance of the Regional Development Advisors (RDAs) and in compliance with
the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Kenya Data Act of 2019, the junior officer will support the EnDev clusters through day-to-day Monitoring, Reporting and Verification activities.

More specifically, the tasks will include: 

  • Support in development, review and dispatch of data reporting tools (digital & hard copy) for the Last Mile Entrepreneurs (LMEs) (Solar PU promoters, ICS builders, ICS Producers etc.) 
  • Data entry activities for the EnDev project into prescribed data collection tools and perform related data management.  
  • Plan and conduct internal and external verification of reported project.
    results (both solar and ICS sales data, activity results etc.) and produce reports that will be relied upon for reporting and monitoring achievements of the programme.
  • Conduct data cleaning, statistical analysis, aggregation and preparation of tools to enable uploads into the Online Data Management (ODM) platform in accordance to templates and periodic reporting requirements by the Global EnDev programme.
  • Plan and conduct capacity building for LMEs and Partners with regards to data collection and verification tools and processes
  • Overall records management at the clusters level, including but not limited to proper filing of records, verification reports and any other related documentations related to project implementation.
  • Support and contribute to the digitalisation of data collection, monitoring and
    verification tools and processes.
  • Support and contribute to programme reporting requirements to key stakeholders.
    including the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and/or County Governments as they may be required/ or when called 
    upon.
  • Contribute to and Represent the Programme in knowledge management and data sharing.
    forums in line with the Kenya National Clean Cooking Strategy (KNCCS)
  • Support and Contribute to documentation of impact stories to demonstrate the impact of the programme in Kenya.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the supervisors. 

 Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant field namely Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics, Environment & Community Development or Business Management

 Skills and work experience       
At least 1-year work experience in project monitoring, reporting and verification.

  • Experience in verification/auditing or records or similar roles will be an added advantage.
  • Proficient in advanced excel, and competency in other Microsoft (MS) Office Suite (Office 365, MS Teams, MS SharePoint, Power BI etc.) 
  • Experience in implementing MRV activities for development or donor funded projects. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English. 
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Planning and organizing skills. 
  • Be a team player that motivates and supports other team members. 
  • Experience in working for GIZ will be an added advantage. 

Assignment period: Until 31.12.2024

 Duty Station: Nairobi with frequent visits to EnDev implementation clusters.
