Description

A. Background

About GIZ:

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federal enterprise that implements German development policy around the globe. By providing international cooperation services for sustainable development, GIZ is dedicated to building a future worth living around the world. With over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy, and the environment as well as peace and security; GIZ also stands for and works towards the realization of human rights in the
digital space.

The potential for technology transfer in healthcare between Africa and Europe has not yet been fully leveraged. In Kenya, start-ups and companies often lack structured access to regional and global growth pathways, while European MedTech solutions frequently fail due to insufficient adaptation to regional conditions. Against this backdrop, GIZ is implementing the standalone measure “Technology Transfer for Better Health in Africa”. The aim is to improve healthcare delivery in Kenya (and selected partner countries) by further developing and scaling data-driven technologies, identifying, addressing and practically overcoming regulatory, infrastructural and financial barriers through pilot initiatives in Kenya. Exchange formats and
solution approaches are jointly conducted and developed with Kenyan and European tech start-ups, companies and health experts, conceptually refined, implemented as pilots within multi-stakeholder partnerships in Kenya, and published as blueprints.

Responsibilities

You co-create the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) “Technology Transfer for Better Health in Africa”
initiative from Kenya, supporting on planning, budget, contracts and risk, and co-driving multi-stakeholder pilots to address regulatory, infrastructural and financial barriers to scaling data-driven health technologies across SSA.

You build and sustain a Kenya-based, SSA-wide network of startups, companies and investors, moderate dialogues with Kenyan and regional authorities and ecosystem partners, communicate results, and coordinate closely with GIZ teams (e.g., OE 1730, GloBe) while representing the initiative.

Tasks

  • Building and maintaining a network to advance health through data-driven solutions, focusing on African and European companies, especially start-ups, as well as investors

  • Steering multisector alliances and exchange formats - moderating dialogue formats with authorities, the private sector, investors and ecosystem partners, and developing concepts to address regulatory, infrastructural and financial framework conditions relevant to selected African countries

  • Technical leadership and close cooperation with colleagues in Kenya and Ghana, for on-the-ground implementation of pilot measures and development of blueprints

  • Supporting the commissioning manager in positioning and representing the topic vis-à-vis potential donors and partners; contributing to agenda-setting and policy advice with a partner country focus, in close coordination with the health and digital economy

Collaboration & Representation

  • Foster partnerships across African and European innovation ecosystems.

  • Represent the project at regional and international events.

  • Develop co-creation formats (events, workshops, exposure projects).

  • Draft reports, presentations, and communication materials.

  • Experience in digital health/HealthTech, including data governance, interoperability and
regulation in Africa, with demonstrated understanding of the Kenyan context

  • Knowledge of Kenya’s digital health systems; experience in Ghana is an asset

  • Expertise in working with regional institutions e.g. AU, RECs and knowledge of regional frameworks supporting single markets for digital technologies is an advantage

  • Familiarity with GIZ internal processes, including standalone measures, cooperation and
    financing instruments an advantage
