TRAINER – CRIMINOLOGY & CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

Job Overview

The Trainer will deliver training in Criminology & Criminal Justice System, support learner development, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the University’s professional and technical training programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct training sessions, seminars, workshops, tutorials, and other learning activities as assigned.
• Participate in exam development, administration, marking, and continuous assessment.
• Contribute to the formulation and implementation of academic policies aligned with the Institute’s vision.
• Develop learning materials, prepare schemes of work, and maintain records to track student progress and attendance.
• Undertake research to support curriculum development and validation of learning resources.
• Manage requisition and inventory of learning tools and equipment.
• Provide guidance and feedback to trainees, referring them to support services when necessary.
• Supervise and assist students in practical work.
• Participate in departmental seminars to share research findings and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Encourage trainee creativity and innovation through involvement in contests, trade fairs, and projects.
• Establish industry linkages to facilitate experiential learning, training excursions, and attachments.
• Engage in departmental, Institute, and University meetings, working groups, or committees as required.
• Undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff training activities mandated by regulators.
• Maintain accurate records of examinations, assignments, practical tasks, and assessments, ensuring timely entry into the examination records management system.
• Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminology & Criminal Justice System or related discipline from a recognized institution.
• Registration as a Trainer with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).
• Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at tertiary level or three (3) years industry-based experience.
• Certificate from an approved Trainer of Trainers course.
• Professional qualification or membership in a relevant professional association is an advantage.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
