Description
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (e.g., Psychology, Education Psychology, or other relevant discipline), with training or experience in Special Educational Needs or inclusive education.
- Postgraduate qualification in Special Education, Inclusive Education, or a closely related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in teaching and/or supporting students with diverse learning needs within a mainstream or inclusive education setting.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering interventions for students with special educational needs, including literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional or behavioural needs.
- Experience in assessing learners’ needs and developing, implementing, and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or equivalent support plans.
Responsibilities
Identification and Support of Learners
- Maintain an active caseload of students and provide direct assessment, intervention, and progress monitoring for students with diverse learning needs.
- Identify and assess students’ learning needs through screening, data analysis, teacher and parent referrals, observations, and formal and informal assessments.
- Distinguish between students requiring short-term remedial support and those with identified or emerging special educational needs.
- Lead the organisation and effective use of learning materials, assistive technologies, and physical resources within the Learning Support Unit to ensure accessibility and suitability for all learners.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external specialists and service providers to support the assessment and intervention needs of students whose needs cannot be fully assessed or supported within the school.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records of student assessments, interventions, progress, and support plans.
- Document parent meetings, support sessions, reviews, and programme adjustments to ensure continuity and accountability.
- Manage documentation related to Learning Support enrolment and parent agreements, and monitor adherence to agreed support arrangements.
- Build strong partnerships with parents by maintaining regular communication regarding student progress, support strategies, and next steps.
- Facilitate parent involvement in goal-setting, review meetings, and decision-making processes to strengthen student outcomes and home-school collaboration.
- Serve as a key point of contact for parents, teachers, school leaders, and external professionals regarding student support and inclusion matters.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and school leadership to strengthen inclusive practices and ensure effective support for diverse learners across the school.
- Design and deliver professional learning opportunities that build staff capacity in differentiation, inclusive teaching practices, and learning support strategies.
- Support teachers in the effective use of digital tools and systems for monitoring, documenting, and referring students with special educational needs.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and relevant regulations relating to inclusion, safeguarding, assessment, and special educational needs.
- Liaise effectively with external professionals and agencies, ensuring that recommendations are appropriately implemented, monitored, and reviewed.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and recommendations for school leadership, parents, and other stakeholders as required.
