The Manager, Data Privacy will be accountable for directing, organising and helping ensure data protection compliance within the Stanbic Bank Uganda (SBU). To act as local data protection officer for the all legal entities within SBU.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • First Degree in Information Technology/ Law
  • Three to four years of experience of Managing Data Protection within a Financial Services Business including implementing policy and procedures and dealing. Previous experience of Managing Compliance within a Financial Services Business including a full understanding of the full spectrum of Compliance issues and solutions.

Competencies

  • Information Security; The ability to manage the selection, design, justification, implementation and operation of information security controls to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability and relevant compliance of information systems.
  • Knowledge of Banking & Financial Service; Knowledge of business concepts, entities (definition, ownership, use, semantics and syntax) specific to the Banking and Financial Services industry.
  • Emerging Technology Monitoring; The identification of new and emerging hardware, software and communication technologies, products, methods and techniques and the assessment of their relevance and potential value to the organization. The promotion of emerging technology awareness among staff and business management.
  • Behavioral Competency; Developing Strategies, Exploring Possibilities, Interpreting Data, Examining Information, Adopting Practical Approaches


Responsibilities

  • Act as contact point for individuals, staff and clients and third parties re data protection issues and the exercise of their rights in relation to those issues.
  • Assess, advise, remedy, and provide governance structure to ensure compliance across all SBU jurisdictions with applicable data protection legislation.
  • Ensure appropriate DPIA policies and procedures are in place for new personal data initiatives across SBU.
  • In addition to ensuring appropriate DPIAs are conducted for such projects, provide specialist data privacy advice and support as required.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of compliance of the business and its functions practicesand policies with applicable data protection legislation.
  • Provide specialist advice on whether or not to carry out a DPIA, the methodology to follow, whether to outsource a DPIA or conduct it in-house, what safeguards (technical and organisational measures) to apply to mitigate the risks to the rights and interests of data subjects, whether the DPIA has been correctly carried out and whether its conclusions (whether or not to proceed with the processing) are in compliance with data protection legislation.
  • Report regularly to relevant stakeholders (including the board) on the status of data protection privacy compliance and to the Regulator
