Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • The applicant for the role should hold at least a Diploma in Social Sciences, Community Development or any related field from a reputable institution.
  • A certificate or training in Special Needs Education or Teaching Assistantship is an additional advantage.
  • At least two years of minimum working experience in a similar role or with children who have special needs.
  • Knowledge of different learning, behavioural, or developmental needs of individuals with special needs.
  • Considerable physical and emotional resilience
  • Compassionate, patient, empathetic, and an active listener.
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
  • Reliable, flexible, and team-oriented


Responsibilities
  • Assist young adults with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, feeding, and mobility
  • according to individualised care plans.
  • Ensure consistent and safe adherence to daily routines, including morning
  • preparations, meals, medication schedules, and rest periods.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and nurturing home environment in accordance with Watoto’s holistic care model
  • Engage young adults in organised physical activities, cognitive tasks, and social- emotional learning appropriate to their abilities.
  • Encourage play-based and skills-focused activities such as music, sports, and crafts to promote growth and talent development.
  • Promote independence by supporting guided participation in daily activities and self- care skills.
  • Provide emotional reassurance, guidance, and consistent care to foster trust and emotional security.
  • Observe, document, and promptly report any behavioural, emotional, or developmental changes
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and follow established safety, safeguarding, and incident-reporting procedures.
  • Escort young adults to medical appointments, therapy sessions, and community outings as required
  • Work collaboratively with other mothers, caregivers, medical personnel, and administrative staff, and participate in case review meetings to support the young adult with special needs’ holistic care.
