East Africa Ministries is a Christian not for Profit organization which has been operating in South Sudan and Uganda since 2009 to-date, with a head office in Fort Worth, Dallas, USA and a regional office in Gulu, Uganda.

In 2014, East Africa Ministries|4africa established the Leadership Academy of South Sudan (LASS), a mixed boarding secondary school, registered with the central government in Juba, and registered by the Country and State governments.

The school seeks to recruit a suitably qualified South Sudanese or Ugandan through Internal or External means to fill the following vacant post in Administration and management at LASS.


JOB POSITION: CHEMISTRY/BIOLOGY TEACHER (1 position)

REPORTS TO: HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

WORK STATION: NIMULE, EASTERN EQUATORIAL STATE - SOUTH SUDAN

RENUMERATION: ATTRACTIVE/UNDISCLOSED

JOB SUMMARY:

The Biology and Chemistry teaching is intention in order to enhance the teaching and learning of science-based subjects in the school. The teacher will prepare and teach lessons, assess learners progress, provide guidance and counselling, manage students discipline, participate in co-curricular activities, support discipleship and administration, and other departmental activities.


Preferred Skills, Fit and Experience:

1. Bachelors of Science in Education, Biology and Chemistry from a recognized institution of learning,

2. At least one (1) year of experience in a similar position

3. Willingness to work in South Sudan,

4. Must be a practicing Christian.

5. Must have scored Distinction in the subjects applied to the teacher in “O” level and or “A’ and or “B” in UACE examinations.

6. Willingness to learn and grow under the instruction of teaching faculty and in a professional environment,

7. Must have NO record of conviction in any Court of Law, nor any record in relation to abuse or neglect of children,

8. Key Competency: subject Mastery, Computer skills, Communication, report writing, Integrity, teamwork, flexibility, ability to work long hours, child respect and protection, and able to adequately represent LASS on different forums while upholding the integrity of the school.

1. Hand delivered applications will NOT be accepted.

2. Any form of influencing peddling/canvassing and related will lead to automatic disqualification.

  1. To model a high standard of personal Christian member and integrity through lifestyle and professional relationships;
  2. To influence Leadership Academy of South Sudan culture to be one of transparency, excellence, and generosity of spirit;
  3. To participate in, and occasionally lead daily Christian devotions as per schedule.
  4. To teach physics and mathematics lessons thoroughly and ensure learners grasp subject concepts and ideas.
  5. To make schemes of work for each subject, daily lesson plans, record of marks and record of work covered for a given class.
  6. To thoroughly prepare and deliver effective lessons to the class allocated to you following a schedule.
  7. To review and mark student’s work, activities, maintain a progress of students’ performance and give appropriate feedback.
  8. To identify and select a wide range of different learning resources and equipment to use that can enhance the performance in your subject.
  9. To Research on new topics, maintaining up-to date subject knowledge and revising new curriculum materials so as to equip students with relevant and up-to date knowledge.
  10. To identify and set well-crafted relevant items for topical tests, internal and external examinations.
  11. To fill in students marks in the mark sheet, report cards and making appropriate comments regarding student’s performance and behaviors.
  12. To managing student’s behavior in the classroom and on school premises and applying appropriate and effective measures in cases of behavior.
  13. Supervising and supporting work of teaching assistants, trainee teachers and newly qualified teachers
  14. To participating in and organizing extra-curricular activities like; sports, practical and other school social activities and trips outside the school.
  15. To participate in departmental meetings and develop teaching strategies, in order to improve school rating.
  16. Should attend school programs and activities e.g., visitation day, teacher’s workshops, student’s seminars, prefects vetting, open forum etc.
  17. Keep minutes of meetings and report to the departmental head; oversee the implementation of decisions made at departmental staff meetings.
  18. Hold teaching demonstrations; encourage enjoyment in learning a particular subject, set up various methods of learning for the students.
  19. To participate in the identification, selection and orientation of new students in LASS.
  20. Any other duty that may be assigned by the administration from time to time.
