GIZ is a federallyowned enterprise operating worldwide, assisting the GermanGovernment in achieving its international cooperation policy goals throughsustainable development projects.
In Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC) region, GIZ works closelywith governments to advance development in areas such as health, water,biodiversity, governance, human rights, and economic growth.
Since 2018,GIZ, with financial support from the German Federal Government, has implementedthe Support to Pandemic Preparedness in the EAC-Region (PanPrep) Project incollaboration with the EAC Secretariat and Partner States. Specifically,PanPrep supports the EAC Secretariat’s regional efforts to strengthen pandemicpreparedness and response through rapid expert deployment, One Health andmultisectoral coordination, risk communication and food safety, improved accessto essential medical commodities, and strengthened laboratory, wastewatersurveillance and intensive care capacities. In addition, the project works withthe EAC Secretariat and Partner States; Burundi, Democratic Republic of theCongo (DRC), Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Somalia and Uganda tostrengthen institutional, individual and community-level capacities foreffective prevention, detection and response to high-consequence infectiousdiseases.
The intern will support the PanPrep team in the implementation andcoordination of activities that contribute to regional pandemic preparednessand response.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Supporting day-to-dayproject management, coordination and operations, including meetings, logistics,documentation, research and follow-up.
Assisting withliaison and coordination with the EAC Secretariat, Partner States andimplementation partners.
· Supportingmonitoring, evaluation, reporting and operational planning of projectactivities.
Supporting, under theguidance of the project team, activities related to pandemic preparedness andresponse, One Health, medical commodities, laboratory systems and carecapacity, as required.
Supporting risk andcrisis communication, including research and preparation of communicationmaterials, press releases and RCC portal content.
Supporting internaland external project communications, including social media, website updates,articles and event materials.
Participate inresearch and monitoring pandemic preparedness and relevant health-policydevelopments in the EAC region.
Support the planning,implementation and follow-up of relevant meetings, workshops and regionalevents.
Assisting in thepreparation of briefs, one-pagers, presentations, background documents andanalyses.
Providing other relevant technical, administrative and operationalsupport as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’sor postgraduate degree in Health and Life Sciences, Social or Political Sciences,International Relations, or a related discipline.
Basicknowledge or initial experience in project management, EAC health integration, regionalcooperation, or development cooperation.
StrongEnglishcommunication and writing skills.
Excellentinterculturalcompetence and teamwork skills, with the ability to workeffectively in diverse environments.
Strongorganisational,coordination, and analytical skills.
Knowledgeof Frenchand Swahili is an advantage.
Proficiencyin MicrosoftOffice applications, particularly Word, Excel, andPowerPoint.
