About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Team Lead to lead programmes and research initiatives focused on gender-based violence (GBV), social and gender norms, masculinity, family dynamics and community-based interventions.

The successful candidate will bring strong programme leadership experience, a deep understanding of the Tanzanian context, and established relationships with government agencies and relevant stakeholders.

This is a senior role requiring someone who can provide strategic and technical leadership while effectively coordinating research, programme implementation and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and coordination of GBV and community-based programmes and research activities.
  • Lead the design and implementation of qualitative and participatory research related to GBV, social norms change, masculinity, family dynamics and community interventions.
  • Provide technical guidance on research methodologies, programme design, implementation and learning.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with Tanzanian government agencies, development partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead engagement with government officials and represent the programme in relevant technical and stakeholder forums.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and ensure activities are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timelines.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting, ensuring research findings are translated into practical programme recommendations.
  • Contribute to programme strategy, documentation, knowledge sharing and learning.
  • Ensure that programme activities are aligned with relevant national policies, frameworks and standards.
  • Support effective communication and collaboration between the organisation, government counterparts, communities and other partners.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience managing GBV and/or community-based programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Tanzania, with strong experience engaging and collaborating with government agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience leading at least two similar projects involving the design and/or implementation of qualitative and participatory research.
  • Strong technical experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Gender-based violence
    • Social norms change
    • Masculinity
    • Family dynamics
    • Community-based interventions
  • Proven experience providing team leadership and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with government, community and development partners.

Location & Working Arrangement

The role is based in Tanzania Mainland, with the organisation's office located in Dar es Salaam.

The successful candidate may work remotely, but must be available to attend meetings with government officials and other stakeholders in person when required.

We are particularly interested in candidates who combine strong technical expertise in GBV and gender programming with proven leadership experience and established government relationships in Tanzania.

Candidates should be comfortable operating at both strategic and implementation levels, leading teams, engaging senior stakeholders and translating research and programme evidence into meaningful community-level interventions.
