Safety Surveyors Limited provides risk surveying, safety standards and related training services. As the organisation grows, we are strengthening our People & Culture function to support a consistent employee experience, effective people management, compliance and sustainable organisational growth.

We are seeking a People & Culture Business Partner to serve as the organisation’s day-to-day HR generalist and implementation partner. Working closely with the Operations Director, HR Consultant, managers and employees, the role will ensure that people practices are responsive, consistent, legally compliant and aligned with operational needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

HR Business Partnering & Manager Support

  • Build an understanding of business priorities, workforce needs and people challenges and provide practical HR guidance to managers.

  • Support managers with staffing, role clarity, team effectiveness, employee communication and resolution of routine people matters.

  • Use workforce information and employee feedback to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.

  • Support implementation of agreed People & Culture priorities and HR improvement initiatives.

Employee Lifecycle & HR Operations

  • Coordinate employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, onboarding, probation, confirmation, contract renewals, internal movements and offboarding.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate employment documentation, employee files, HR records and trackers.

  • Maintain the HR calendar and track probation reviews, contract expiries, leave, performance cycles and statutory requirements.

  • Respond to employee and manager HR queries and appropriately escalate matters outside the role’s authority.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Work with hiring managers and the HR Consultant to clarify hiring needs and coordinate fair and well-documented recruitment processes.

  • Coordinate candidate communication, interviews, reference/background checks, offers and pre-employment documentation.

  • Deliver structured onboarding and track induction, mandatory training, role objectives and probation requirements.

  • Support development of talent pipelines for recurring or business-critical roles.

Performance & Capability Development

  • Coordinate the performance management cycle and support managers and employees in objective setting, performance conversations and reviews.

  • Track probation and performance actions and provide first-line guidance, escalating complex matters appropriately.

  • Coordinate training needs analysis, learning plans and development activities and maintain relevant records.

  • Support career development, succession and talent initiatives as relevant frameworks are introduced.

Employee Relations, Culture & Engagement

  • Serve as an approachable first point of contact for employee concerns, handling matters impartially, professionally and confidentially.

  • Guide managers on consistent policy application and support grievance, disciplinary, attendance and conduct processes.

  • Escalate complex, sensitive or high-risk employee relations matters appropriately.

  • Coordinate employee engagement, wellbeing, recognition, communication, surveys and culture-building initiatives.

HR Compliance, Policy & People Risk

  • Maintain working knowledge of Kenyan employment law and HR good practice and support day-to-day compliance.

  • Implement approved HR policies, procedures, tools and templates and support their consistent application.

  • Support HR compliance reviews and audits and follow up agreed corrective actions.

  • Maintain confidentiality and protect employee information in line with applicable data protection requirements.

  • Support workplace health, safety and wellbeing requirements in coordination with relevant operational leads.

People Data, Reporting & Improvement

  • Maintain reliable people data and prepare concise reports/dashboard information on agreed workforce indicators.

  • Identify emerging people risks and provide actionable insights to management.

  • Monitor People & Culture service standards and recommend improvements to HR processes and employee experience.

  • Keep abreast of relevant HR practice and legislative developments.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organisational Psychology or a related field.

  • Active membership in good standing with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).

  • CHRP(K) or equivalent professional qualification is an added advantage.

  • At least 4 years of progressive generalist HR experience, with practical exposure to employee relations, recruitment, performance management, learning, HR operations and manager support.

  • Practical experience applying Kenyan employment and labour law and maintaining compliant employee documentation.

  • Experience in a growing SME, professional services, training or safety/risk-related organisation is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace and experience working with HR information systems and people data.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Sound knowledge of Kenyan employment and labour law, HR compliance and employee data protection.

  • Practical capability across recruitment, onboarding, performance management, learning, employee relations and HR operations.

  • Strong planning, documentation, records management and process coordination skills.

  • Ability to interpret people information, identify risks and prepare clear reports.

  • High integrity, discretion, impartiality and respect for confidentiality.

  • Strong communication and active listening skills, with confidence handling difficult conversations respectfully.

  • Sound professional judgement and ability to recognise when matters require escalation.

  • Strong relationship-building, influencing and service orientation.

  • Ability to translate HR frameworks and priorities into practical day-to-day action.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management, the HR Consultant and line managers.

This role is suited to a hands-on HR professional who enjoys building effective people practices, supporting managers and employees, and strengthening HR systems within a growing organisation.
