Description
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of preparation and painting of equipment, buildings and other structures, support equipment, and components, for both interior and exterior work.
- Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.
- Ability to recognize occupational hazards of the painting trade and take precautionary measures as needed.
- Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment.
- Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Valid country driver's license and passport.
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
Experience & Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in a paint preparation, painting, sanding and scuffing or related field required.
Responsibilities
- Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings and other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
- Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.
- Cover surfaces with canvas drop cloth or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster; or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.
- Read work orders or receive instructions from supervisors in order to determine work requirements.
- Remove fixtures such as frames, door knobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting.
- Remove old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing, burning, or using water and/or abrasive blasting.
- Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, and/or sanding machines.
- Erect scaffolding and swing gates, or set up ladders, to work above ground level.
- Waterproof buildings, using waterproofing membranes and caulking.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
