Description
The German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has commissioned the Gesellschaft fϋr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) with implementing the “Strengthening Good Governance in Sudan” Programme. This intervention aims to strengthen Sudanese civil society actors in their efforts to contribute to peaceful and inclusive development in Sudan.
The programme comprises four areas of intervention, namely:
1) strengthening the capacities of Sudanese civil society actors to continue their work outside and inside of Sudan,
2) supporting civil society actors to implement peace and social cohesion measures
3) to connect Sudanese civil society and to elevate their voices in shaping peaceful development as well as
4) to support adaptive and context-sensitive implementation.
GIZ Kenya is recruiting a Senior Grants Advisor to successfully realise the implementation of the programme, with a focus on intervention area 2.
A. Key Responsibilities
The Senior Grants Advisor will be responsible for:
Develop and manage strategic partnerships to enhance coordination and synergies
Liaise with Sudanese CSO and other relevant stakeholders in Kenya and the region
Provide contextual updates on relevant civic, governance and peacebuilding processes, including emerging developments that may create opportunities or risks for the programme.
Identify emerging actors, ideas, and processes that may warrant further engagement or
consideration by the programme.Advise Sudanese civil society organisations regarding the design and implementation of projects in the framework of the Qudra Fund and additional project funding streams
Provide regular backstopping and technical support to project partners financed through the Qudra Fund and other funding streams
Support the preparation and implementation of potential additional Call for Proposals for Sudanese CSOs
Support the documentation of programme and partner organisation implementation, contributing to internal and external learning and peer-to-peer-exchange

Perform other duties and tasks at the request of management.
A. Required qualifications, competences, and experience.
Qualifications.
Educational Background – Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field.
Business-fluent (minimum C1 on the CEFR scale) in English and Arabic.
Proven experience with project management tools and software
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, especially real-time collaboration and messaging.
Experience with Call for Proposals and digital grant management platforms is an asset.
Experience in working in multicultural and decentral teams.
Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
High degree of professionalism, discretion and understanding of data protection and ethical data use principles, especially in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
B. Professional experience.
8 years of professional experience in project management and grants management, and advising of civil society organisations
8 years of professional experience in donor or donor-funded development programmes
8 years of relevant work experience in Sudan. Proven knowledge of Sudan and its civil society
5 years of professional experience in GIZ programmes
Other knowledge, additional competences
Proficiency in English, excellent command of Arabic
Good understanding of the Sudanese context and operating environment
MUST be legally eligible to work in Kenya
Hold a valid work permit
