Description
A. Background
Connective Cities is an international community of practice for sustainable municipal development, commissioned by BMZ and implemented by GIZ and partners. It connects urban practitioners from government, business, academia and civil society worldwide to share knowledge, exchange practical solutions and promote sustainable urban development.
The initiative focuses on practical approaches such as sustainable mobility, local economic development, energy efficiency and good urban governance, using peer-to-peer learning, technical advisory and international learning processes.
2026 Focus – Sub-Saharan Africa
Connective Cities Sub-Saharan Africa will focus on:
- Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Resilience
- Green Transition and Local Economic Development
The upcoming phase will involve planning and implementing learning processes, agile network activities, knowledge exchange and dissemination of knowledge products.
B. Tasks
The intern will support the advisor to:
Prepare participants for any planned activities.
Prepare documents/templates needed for the events.
Prepare the platforms for the events.
Collate materials and output from the processes for documentation.
Document the proceedings of the events; monitor participation, exporting of engagements as directed by the advisor.
Research on and document at least 2 knowledge products for dissemination on the Connective Cities’ platforms.
Keep the SSA network platform active by sharing information.
Populate the SSA network with new contacts of urban practitioners from the region.
Organize and implement an insight session on a topic of interest.
Other duties/additional tasks:
Participate in team meetings.
Any other duty that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor (Regional Development Advisor).
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Degree in an area related to the project’s objectives, with a focus on a relevant field such as Environment, urban planning, community development, Economic Development etc. Bachelors degree holder, recent graduate not longer than 1 year.
Must have proficient knowledge on Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc).
Adequate understanding of sustainable urban development in the region.
Excellent command of oral and written English. Proficiency in French will be an added advantage
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Digital skills will be an added advantage.
