The Role
Supports Kenya’s Deworm the World Initiative in delivering the national STH/SCH programme’s transition to targeted treatment, surveillance, and government-led control. The role manages programme workstreams spanning epidemiological classification, targeted Mass drug Administration, surveillance and early-warning response, drug supply chains, and health systems strengthening; provides technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and county systems; and supports the handover of routine functions. The Senior Associate also ensures effective delivery of school-based deworming where indicated, using programme data and field insights to guide planning, resolve uncertainties, and strengthen evidence-led implementation.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate targeted treatment, surveillance, classification, and related programme workstreams in line with national STH/SCH guidance.
- Provide day-to-day technical assistance to government counterparts and support planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and partner meetings.
- Review programme plans, guidelines, SOPs, and reports; document implementation challenges, lessons, and recommendations.
- Maintain and update county/IU classification and surveillance data, support impact assessments and field surveillance, and facilitate timely notify–verify–investigate–respond actions.
- Ensure accurate flow of classification, surveillance, coverage, and treatment data into KHIS, eCHIS, IDB, and other reporting systems.
- Support JAP/JRSM submissions, drug quantification, delivery monitoring, redistribution, and supply-chain reporting in collaboration with MoH and KEMSA.
- Coordinate county advocacy, training cascades, community mobilization, MDA scheduling, field supervision, and implementation monitoring.
- Ensure MDA occurs only where indicated, monitor coverage, dosing, compliance, adverse events, and implementation fidelity, and escalate critical issues promptly.
- Train and supervise data collectors and field teams, maintain accurate programme records, and support post-MDA reconciliation and reporting.
- Support evidence and classification documentation for national reporting and validation processes, including EPHP requirements, and undertake other assigned duties.
Key Performance Indicators
- Timely, complete, and accurate programme reports and government technical assistance.
- Accurate and timely JAP/JRSM submissions aligned with current classification and treatment needs.
- Timely drug delivery monitoring, redistribution, and resolution of supply issues.
- Training and targeted MDA activities completed on schedule and according to guidance.
- Same-day escalation of severe adverse events and confirmed surveillance signals.
- Timely collection, cleaning, validation, and reporting of programme data.
- Timely root-cause analysis of unexpected MLE variations and actionable feedback to government.
- Accurate, up-to-date county/IU classification records maintained within agreed timelines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Project Management, or related field.
- 3–5 years of program implementation experience.
- Proven teamwork, cross-cultural, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience collaborating with government stakeholders.
- Strong multitasking, time management, and communication skills.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and constructively involved in organizational development.
- Detail-oriented, accurate, reliable, flexible, and proactive.
- Proficient in standard office software and web research.
- Discreet with confidential matters.
- Humble, self-reflective, and possesses a sense of humor.
- Willingness to build working knowledge of surveillance-based and classification-driven programme design as the NSBDP transitions from broad MDA delivery toward targeted treatment and government-owned control.
