Description
As an international cooperation enterprise forsustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned DeutscheGesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the GermanGovernment in achieving its development-policy objectives.
We are seeking adetail-oriented and motivated Accounting Specialist to join our FinanceUnit. The successful candidate will be responsible for various accountingtasks, with excellence and integrity.
The Accounting Specialist plays a criticalrole in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financialoperations within GIZ’s development cooperation projects. Operating in closecoordination with both Country Office and Project teams as well as GIZ HeadOffice. The Accounting specialist will uphold organizational standards,facilitate internal controls, and contribute to transparent financialmanagement in support of impactful development programs.
Financial services
Execute daily accounting tasksincluding journal entries, account reconciliations, and other routineactivities with precision and attention to detail.
Monitor and maintain accurateaccounting records for GIZ projects.
Prepare end-of-month financialreports and ensure their timely submission to the designated officerresponsible for the contract and to GIZ Head Office.
Collaborate effectively with teammembers to improve efficiency and accuracy in accounting processes.
Act as Key Account Manager ofrespective projects and provide support as needed
Monitor accounts payables andreceivables and reports regularly to the officer responsible for the contractand the Finance managers.
Assists with the Bank paymentprocessing
Ensure the smooth operation offinancial administrative processes, in strict alignment with GIZ’s standardprocedures.
Stay updated on changes inaccounting standards and financial regulations
Internal control andAudits
Review vouchers and receipts forcompleteness, cost unit allocations, and category accuracy, making correctionswhen necessary.
Advise project teams on financialand compliance issues
Carry out internal controls inaccordance with GIZ’s internal procedures
Provide support in audits byproviding documentation and resolving inquiries promptly.
Other duties/additionaltasks:
Promptly report any irregularitiesor challenges related to financial administration and regulatory compliance.
Maintain filing systems inaccordance with GIZ standards to ensure organized recordkeeping.
Undertake additional tasks assignedby management, contributing flexibly to evolving team and project needs.
Qualifications and ProfessionalExperience
Universitydegree in accounting, finance, economics or equivalent
Professionalcertification (CPA, ACCA) preferred.
At least 4 years of professionalexperience in a comparable position
Proven experience in financial administration within an international ordevelopment cooperation context.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and commitment toaccuracy.
in-depth knowledge of accounting software
Good working knowledge of ICT technologies, related software and computerapplications
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed –corresponding measures are agreed with management.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Effective communication and teamwork skills
very good knowledge of the Europeanlanguage widely used in the country, ideally a knowledge of German.
