About the Role
We are looking for an apprentice engineer who will support Sanivation’s technical team in various aspects of design, engineering, technical support, research, data analysis, and product development across a range of varied projects and locations. The Apprentice Engineer will provide expertise in technical reports, proposals, and designs. The apprentice engineer will support project management, research, data collection/analysis and construction supervision activities. This role will contribute to technical support initiatives, including correspondence with stakeholders and capacity building efforts and assisting in product development tasks such as market analysis, product definition, and financial projections.
The Apprentice Engineer will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers to ensure the successful implementation of Sanivation’s innovative WASH technologies in Kenya. Sanivation’s innovative WASH projects fall under the following product groups:
Waste-to-value faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTPs)
Waste collection (toilets, emptying, and transportation)
Master planning (including city-wide inclusive sanitation plans (CWISPs))
Solid waste management (SWM)
Design and Engineering:
Draft designs and technical reports for Sanivation’s WASH technologies.
Contribute to supervision of construction sites for infrastructure projects with support of senior engineers.
Conduct research, data collection, and data analysis on projects.
Lead on assigned project tasks and develop innovative solution to Sanivation projects.
Responsible for drafting sections of feasibility, design, and research proposals.
Technical Support:
Travel to various sites to gain practical experience and provide support on resource and project mobilization.
Responsible for time and resource management while monitoring projects to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
Liaison between project managers, operations teams, and external stakeholders for seamless communication on project updates.

Product Development:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
Experience:
Skills:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a technical role, preferably in the field of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects.
Experience in drafting technical reports, proposals, or similar documents is required. Familiarity with construction supervision processes desirable.
Proficiency in technical writing and communication.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect and analyse data. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Knowledge of engineering software such as AutoCAD, GIS, or similar tools is advantageous. Familiarity with project management principles and tools.
Knowledge:
Understanding of engineering principles and concepts related to water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Familiarity with sanitation technologies and products is advantageous.
Basic knowledge of financial analysis and projections.
Working Relationship:
All functional areas that need technical support.
Strong relationship needed with Partnerships, Project Development, and all operations teams.
