Description
Background
The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has commissioned GIZ to implement the “Strengthening Resilience through Food and Nutrition Security for Refugees and Host Communities in Sudan” project under the Special Initiative Displaced Persons and Host Countries.
The project aims to strengthen food and nutrition security, livelihoods and community resilience among refugees, internally displaced persons and host communities through four key areas:
- Climate-smart agriculture: Building small-scale farmers’ skills in sustainable food production, processing and value addition, with a strong focus on women.
- Women’s economic empowerment: Supporting income-generating opportunities through food processing, entrepreneurship and small business management.
- Nutrition and hygiene: Promoting improved nutrition and hygiene practices among communities.
- Social cohesion and resilience: Strengthening peaceful coexistence and community cohesion among refugees, internally displaced persons and host communities.
B. Responsibilities
Supportingthe effective and good quality implementation of partner organizations’projects
Developingpartner capacities and support the integrated area approach of the project in
the field of climate smart agriculture, seed sovereignty, post-harvestmanagement, natural resource managementSupportingwomen’s income-generating activities in agri-food processing and smallbusinessmanagement
Ensuringa market-oriented design of partner activities
Mainstreamingnutrition and hygiene considerations in partner trainings and guidance
Overseeingthe distribution of activities between target groups with a special emphasis on
women
C. Tasks
1. Coordination
Coordination of the activities within the financing agreements of partnerorganisations
Coordination of partner activities with regards to agriculture, foodsecurity and income generation, including nutrition and hygiene, with technicaloversight, advisory support and verification of implementation quality (e.g.market linkages for women-led enterprises, basic business coaching, andintegration of safe handling, storage and hygiene practices)
Coordinationbetween consultants and partner organisations aswell as with the project team and in particular the MEL advisor
Portfolio-wide coordination with other projects
Attending stakeholder coordination meetings
2. Technical Input
Mapping of land use over time and design ofappropriate and contextually appropriate agricultural activities
Provide technical input on income generationand nutrition/hygiene within agri-food systems, including basic market andvalue chain analysis for selected products, practical guidance on women-ledprocessing and small business management, and integration of essential foodsafety and hygiene practices into partner materials and trainings
Follow up on research questions to support evidence-based decision makingin the agricultural and food security sector in Sudan, in particular forsmall-holder farmers
Creation of knowledge materials for partner institutions
Developing terms of reference for consultants and follow up on theircontracts
3. Contributionto project progress
Contribute to reporting to the commissioning partyincluding narrative progress reports and requests for information
Support in researching and developing ecologicallysound and progressive ideas for site specific challenges, i.e. climate smartagriculture, income generating activities, nutrition/hygiene, seed sovereignty,post-harvest management etc.
Consolidateand verify partner-delivered activities, ensure concise, auditabledocumentation (e.g. brief technical notes, linkage and coaching records), andfeed actionable findings into reporting and learning processes
Contribute to learning activities e.g., learningagendas, reflection sessions and lessons learned briefs
Perform other duties and tasks at the request of the management
D. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Sciences, Agribusiness orrelated fields. Master’s Degree preferred
Professionalexperience
6 years of experiencein farming systems/agrifood systems in Sudan
5 years of professional experience in donorfunded development programmes and with proven sector knowledge (i.e.agriculture, income generation, nutrition) and familiarity with MEL andauditable documentation
Proven knowledge of climate smart agri-foodsystems and natural resource management with experience in water management andpost-harvest handling
Proven knowledge on community work and the roleof local communities, with demonstrated experience engaging host communities,returnees, IDPs and refugees in Sudan
Familiarity with GIS and crop area mapping forplanning and basic production/market analysis
Otherknowledge, additional competences
Experience in remote management and in working with multicultural, decentralized teams
Proficiency in English, excellent command of Arabic
Good understanding of the Sudanese context and operating environment
MUST be legally eligible to work in Kenya
Hold a valid work permit

Duty Station: Nairobi
Duration: Until 30.11.2028 with possibility of extension
