Our client, a fast-growing bank in Kenya that operates on ethical, interest-free banking principles and is part of a major global financial group, is seeking to hire a Accountant- Regulatory Reporting/IFRS 9 within their Finance Department. Reporting to the Senior Manager- Financial Controls, this role is based in Nairobi and sits within a dynamic team supporting the bank’s strategic objectives
Job Purpose
To support and assist the regulatory reporting and financial reporting process by preparing timely reports and information for Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC), while ensuring the accuracy and correct presentation of the numbers through systematic processes, proper and in-depth analysis of variances and by providing informative commentaries
Regulatory Reporting
Preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual returns to CBK in collaboration with Accountant-Financial controls, under guidance of Senior Manager Financial Controls.
Preparation and submission of monthly data to KDIC in collaboration with Accountant-Financial controls under guidance of Senior Manager Financial Controls.
Scan the regulatory environment and keep Senior Manager Financial Controls informed of all new accounting policies and procedures and reporting rules and regulations and their implications.
Liaise with respective departments to ensure compliance in submission of all regulatory returns CBK as per the prudential guidelines.
Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements as issued by the Bank Regulators, the Ministry of Finance, and other bodies affecting the banking industry.
Compliance of central bank reporting requirements and maintenance of required rations and norms.
Identify the areas for improving the quality of data used for reporting.
Attend the queries from Central Bank, KDIC, internal and external auditors.
Preparation of surveys and other one-off requirements to Central Bank.
Any other duties assigned from time to time.
Financial Reporting
Assist in ensuring the compliance and implementation of accounting policies and standards, including IFRS and Central Bank Guidelines.
Input for and validation of IFRS 9 provisioning model.
Support financial reporting team in respect of preparation of key financial reporting schedules for credit risk and liquidity risk, in line with department standards.
Provide backup for the accountant-Financial Control
Key Control Standards
Internal financial controls and policies, standards & procedures, General Ledger standards and controls including financial data processing – integrity, accuracy, sufficiency, Systems security, Department
Operating Instructions and process flows, Key Control Standards, Key Control Self-Assessment, Key Risk Indicators, systems logical access control.
SPECIALISED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Education:
CPA-K or similar qualification.
University Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Studies.
Experience and Skills
Minimum 3 years post qualification experience in a similar position and/or in accounting or audit
environment
Knowledge of International Accounting and Reporting Best Practices
Good knowledge of the Financial and Banking sector
In depth knowledge on accounting concepts, principal, and knowledge of banking products.
Knowledge of reconciliation procedures
Knowledge of CBK electronic software reporting module
Knowledge of CBK reporting requirements and repercussions for failure to comply.
Good interpersonal skills and good verbal and written communication skills.
Good numerical skills
Good computer skills, especially MS Excel
Dynamic, analytical, and self-driven individual with the ability to work under pressure.

Job Specification
Education
CPA Part 2 or similar qualification.
