Our client, a fast-growing bank in Kenya that operates on ethical, interest-free banking principles and is part of a major global financial group, is seeking to hire an Assistant Manager - Enterprise-wide Financial Crime Risk Assessment within their Compliance Department. This role is based in Nairobi and sits within a dynamic team supporting the bank’s strategic objectives.

Job Purpose

Overall, the role is key to supporting the bank's compliance framework to prevent money laundering risks and maintain regulatory adherence.

Responsible for ensuring that the institution identifies, assesses, and controls financial crime risks across the enterprise, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and protecting the Bank from financial and reputational harm. Key result areas are assessment and mitigation of enterprise-wide financial crime risks, sanction compliance, group liaison, reporting, and embedding a culture of compliance throughout the business.



  • Systematically evaluating the bank’s exposure to money laundering and terrorist financing risks. This involves analyzing customer profiles, transaction patterns, products, services, and geographic factors to identify vulnerabilities

  • Developing, updating, and enforcing AML-CFT-CPF policies and procedures that comply with local and international regulatory frameworks to mitigate identified risks

  • Supporting and conducting comprehensive financial crime risk assessments across the enterprise to identify vulnerabilities and emerging risks.

  • Coordinating the Annual Financial Crime Risk Assessment for the bank and preparation of the outcome report

  • Preparing internal reports for senior management and relevant committees on financial crime risk and compliance status.

  • Conducting risk assessments, gap analyses, and horizon scanning for regulatory changes to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Managing and responding to queries related to financial crime risks raised by business units and regulators.

  • Supporting compliance with financial crime regulations such as Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC), and Know Your Customer (KYC).

  • Handling suspicious activity reports and cooperating with regulatory requests or investigations.

  • Collaborating closely with other teams such as distribution, Legal, audit and risk units to ensure consistency in risk management.

  • Assisting in the development and delivery of training and awareness programs related to financial crime risk and compliance requirements.

  • Reviewing and maintaining compliance risk frameworks, policies, procedures and controls related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanctions, Anti-bribery, and Anti-corruption compliance

  • Providing advice and guidance to business units on financial crime risks, regulatory requirements, and compliance expectations.

  • Managing risk assessment data, metrics, and management information (MI) for reporting to risk committees and senior management.

  • Conducting operational effectiveness testing of financial crime controls and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Investigating and escalating suspicious activities or alerts related to financial crime.

  • Contributing to the design and implementation of risk models, customer risk assessments, and control frameworks.

  • Supporting incident investigations and regulatory reporting obligations such as Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).

  • Conducting reviews on client screenings, name searches, and performing quality assurance tasks related to FCC.

  • Supporting AML activities such as typology assessments, transaction monitoring thresholds fine-tuning, and proposing improvements towards compliance and efficiency.

  • Preparing and distributing AML KPIs, reports, dashboards, and process metrics.

  • Supporting AML tool model validation and enhancements and resolving data quality issues related to alerts

  • Collaborating with group stakeholders, compliance teams, and IT for AML process improvements.

  • Additional tasks may involve mentoring team members on KYC and Financial Crime Compliance, performing periodic reviews of corporate accounts and preparing detailed compliance reports.

All the above accountabilities include but are not limited to any additional/new tasks or responsibilities assigned by the line Manager.

Internal: Liaise with All Departments and Group Compliance

External: Approved Vendors, External Auditors

Job Complexity/Judgment

Job Specification

Education

Minimum bachelor’s degree in economics / accounting / risk management / business administration, Marketing, Banking, and similar subjects. Certifications in Risk Management, Process / System Audit, Marketing is preferred

Work Experience

  • At least 4-5 years of banking experience with relevant knowledge of Banking
  • Operations & Products.

  • Former experience in Risk Management / Process Audit / Products development is preferred
