About
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH – (English: German Development Cooperation) is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers demand-driven, tailor-made, and effective services for sustainable development worldwide.
Germany has been engaged in international cooperation with Tanzania since 1975. In 1982, Germany opened an office in Dar es Salaam. They collaborate with local project partners and, at the regional level, with the East African Community (EAC) based in Arusha.
Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank and Governments of other Countries.
Our actions are guided by the principles of sustainability. We advocate for human rights, equal opportunities, and integrity, and we promote market-oriented, ecological, and social economic development. We work to shape a future worth living around the world.
