Qualifications

• A Minimum of Diploma in Forestry or Agroforestry or Environment or Natural Resources or Agriculture any other relevant discipline.

• At least 2 years’ experience working with vulnerable communities and familiarity with humanitarian programming and implementation.

• Proven experience in community driven project implementation with a key focus on landscape restoration, agroforestry, plantation management, nursery management, climate smart agriculture is an added advantage.

• Candidate should demonstrate a good understanding of environment and forestry related issues in Uganda, with a specific focus on Forest Landscape Restoration.

• Experience of data collection, collation, analysis, and report writing

• Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive

Responsibilities

Effective Project Implementation and sustainability.

  • Develop annual project activity plans and update quarterly in collaboration with key departments, oversee implementation to high standards by scope and timelines.

  • Provide technical assistance on sustainable environment management of natural resources, climate smart agriculture, and anticipatory messaging.

  • Deliver training sessions on ecosystem restoration, climate-smart agriculture, and sustainable resource use.

  • Support establishment and maintenance of demonstration plots as learning sites for communities.

  • Provide technical support in forest restoration, afforestation and nature-based enterprise development for improved livelihoods to selected groups.

Community engagement and advocacy.

  • Mobilize refugee and host communities to actively participate in environmental restoration activities, such as tree planting, and soil conservation, while applying principles of resilience designs.

  • Conduct awareness on nature based solutions/enterprises among communities and local leaders.

  • Link farmer groups to government and partners to access additional social services.

  • Facilitate awareness campaigns on climate change impacts and the adaptation and mitigation measures.

  • Promote community adoption and production of improved energy saving cooking stove.

Linkage, networking, collaboration and mentorship.

  • Maintain good coordination and working relationships with OPM, UNHCR, Humanitarian Actors, and district leaders.

  • Organize monthly field planning meetings with farmer groups and WVU departments to guide effective implementation.

  • Collaborate with district and development actors on ongoing government programs on livelihoods and environment enhancement, liaising with extension workers, other relevant sub-county leaders and district stakeholders to facilitate sustainable implementation of project activities.

Documentation, Reporting and Knowledge Management.

  • Compile and submit activity reports and support preparation of quality monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports

  • Conduct regular follow up visits to farmer groups, and their IGAs, and to members to see if they are applying practices, and provide technical advice and mentoring.

  • Track progress of the farmer groups and keep records.

  • Carry out quarterly meetings with farmer groups to assess performance at the community and project level.

Child Protection, gender and Disability inclusion.

  • Ensure inclusion and participation of vulnerable groups in project activities

  • Liaise with WV experts to provide proficient advice on gender, protection and disability inclusion in the project.

  • Monitor wellbeing and child abuse cases and report any incidents in line with child protection policy and guidelines.

  • Work with local leaders to protect children from child violations and abuses
