Qualifications & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B); Call to the Nigerian Bar is required.
  2. Minimum of 3–4 years’ experience providing legal aid, protection, or rights-based services within NGOs or humanitarian settings.
  3. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts in Northeast Nigeria.
  4. Strong knowledge of human rights, protection principles, GBV, child protection, and HLP issues.
  5. Experience in community engagement, legal awareness, and stakeholder coordination.
  6. Ability to manage legal cases and field documentation accurately.
  7. Proficiency in English; knowledge of Hausa and/or Kanuri is an added advantage.
  8. Willingness and ability to travel frequently to remote and hard-to-reach areas.


Responsibilities

A. Legal Service Delivery & Field Implementation

  1. Provide mobile legal information, counselling, and assistance to individuals and communities across Bama, Gwoza, Ngala, and North West.
  2. Identify, document, and follow up on legal and protection cases, including those related to legal identity, HLP, civil documentation, GBV-related legal issues, and other rights violations.
  3. Conduct community legal awareness and sensitization sessions on relevant laws, rights, and available remedies.

B. Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  1. Maintain accurate records of legal cases, referrals, and follow-up actions using FRAD’s approved tools.
  2. Track and report on legal service delivery and case trends.
  3. Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly activity reports for internal and donor use.
  4. Support MEAL teams during baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
  5. Document challenges, lessons learned, and success stories from the field.

C. Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  1. Build and maintain strong working relationships with community leaders, traditional authorities, women and youth groups, and community-based structures.
  2. Liaise with relevant government institutions, including the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Women Affairs, NAPTIP, civil registry offices, and customary dispute resolution mechanisms.
  3. Participate in coordination meetings at LGA and state levels, including protection and legal coordination forums.
  4. Support community-based dispute resolution processes where appropriate and lawful.

D. Training & Capacity Building

  1. Support and deliver training and sensitization sessions on:
  2. Legal identity and civil documentation
  3. Housing, Land and Property (HLP) rights
  4. GBV legal frameworks and referral pathways
  5. Child protection and legal safeguards
  6. Community dispute resolution and legal remedies
  7. Assist in developing user-friendly legal awareness materials.
  8. Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

E. Operational & Logistics Support

  1. Support planning and coordination of roving missions across the assigned LGAs.
  2. Ensure proper documentation of activities, attendance, and case records.
  3. Support procurement and logistics processes in line with FRAD and donor guidelines.
  4. Adhere strictly to safeguarding, accountability, and protection mainstreaming standards.
