Job Description

An officer at this level shall:

• Teach and examine courses in undergraduate and graduate programmes;
  
• Supervise undergraduate projects, tutorials, and practical, field and attachment sessions;
  
• Supervise theses, dissertation and project research for graduate programmes;
  
• Examine theses and dissertations;
  
• Take leadership in developing academic programmes;
  
• Take leadership in development and execution of funded research and development proposals;
  
• Disseminate information through publications, registration of products, and other appropriate fora;
  
• Carry out internal administrative functions in committees, boards and other appointments;
  
• Provide professional consultancies and community services; and
  
• Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time.
  

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, one must have:

• Doctor of Philosophy or equivalent (OR Masters degree qualification in special cases) from a recognized institution in the relevant specialization;
  
• Be registered or registerable with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
  
• At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the university level as a Lecturer or six (6) years research /industry experience;
  
• A minimum of eight (8) publication points as a Lecturer or equivalent, of which at least six (6) should be from refereed scholarly journals;
  
• Supervised at least three (3) Postgraduate students at Masters or PhD level to completion as a Lecturer or equivalent. Supervision of postgraduate students at PhD level is by PhD holders;
  
• Should have participated in professional consultancies and/or community services; and
  
• Must have participated in administrative duties including board, committees and other appointments within the University.
  

An applicant for the position of Senior Research Fellow shall have an additional four (4) publication points of which at least two (2) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
