Key Accountabilities

Execution, time split 50%

  • Prepare dealing tickets to the intermediaries and ensure they are logged into the fund management system accurately and timeously.
  • Timely, accurate and competitive dealing with placement counterparties with view to maximizing returns to the organization while managing risk and tax efficiency.
  • Ensuring timely settlement of the trades with custody and in the Investment system.
  • Negotiating and closing investment opportunities with potential counterparties.
  • Implementation of investment decisions made by the Investment Committee in liaison with the investment manager.
  • Ensuring complete documentation/recording of trades/deals in compliance with internal procedures.

Liquidity Management, Market Intelligence and Strategy Support, time split 20%

  • Recommend rebalancing actions based on market developments and cash flow needs.
  • Monitor upcoming investment maturities/Roll-overs and informing investment managers/private wealth clients in a timely manner.
  • Monitor macroeconomic trends, interest rates, inflation, FX movements, and market sentiment.
  • Provide investment ideas, trading strategies, and market commentary to the Investment Committee.
  • Support asset allocation and tactical investment decisions.
  • Conducting weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings with the investment team to review investment actions and guide future investment strategies.
  • Support client reporting and investment reviews where required.

Stakeholder Engagement, Risk Management and Compliance, time split 10%

  • Initiating and sustaining good relationships with investment counterparties including banks, brokers, custodians, and other market participants to ensure efficient exaction of deals.
  • Organize continuous and periodic review meetings with listed and unlisted institutions to facilitate investment management decision making.
  • Coordinate meetings with potential investment issuer
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards.
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.
  • Compliance with Service providers and counterparty SLAs.

Research Analysis, time split 10%

  • Develop counterparty review models and spearhead the reviews as per business policy.
  • Initiating and sustaining good relationship with investment brokers and issuers to ensure access to management and relevant decision-making information.
  • Support in maintaining all research databases always updated.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement, time split 10%

  • Mentor and supervise Junior Investment Dealers.
  • Ensure smooth interaction between dealing, front office, middle office and back-office operations.
  • Take charge of own growth and development needs through seeking on the Job training and enrolling in relevant in-house and external courses.
  • Work closely with the team leader and other team members to ensure world class customer service
  • Constantly seeking better ways of working by challenging the status quo and supporting an empowering climate within the team, sharing best practice, knowledge, experience and providing constructive feedback as required
  • Provide cover for team members as required.
  • Support implementation and adoption of change initiatives

Preferred Qualification

  • A first degree in relevant subjects which may include Finance, Commerce, Actuarial Science etc.
  • Compliant with the CISI and ICIFA certification requirements.
  • Professional qualifications which may include CFA, CIFA, CPA, CISI, CAIA and/or other relevant professional qualifications in fund management will be an added advantage.

Preferred Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Investment Analysis and Dealing or other relevant areas.
  • Experience in use of Investment Management and Research Systems.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the Kenya financial services industry, Capital Markets Authority (CMA) & Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) Guidelines.
  • Knowledge of good practice in financial analysis and dealing and related activities including risk and governance frameworks.
