Description

We are seeking a Chef who will be responsible for overseeing the overall planning, preparation, and serving of school meals within the assigned campus. The role holder will uphold the highest standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety, ensuring that all meals are prepared and served in line with the School’s nutritional and operational standards. They will play a key role in maintaining excellence in kitchen operations, fostering teamwork among kitchen staff, and ensuring a clean, efficient, and compliant food service environment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Atleast a Certificate in Food and Beverage Management, Catering or a related field.
  • Valid certificate of medical examination.
  • 5 years of experience working as a cook or chef, and at least 2 years of proven experience as a kitchen staff supervisor, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
  • Punctual, organised and trustworthy.
  • Professional and hygienic appearance.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to resolve conflict in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to solve problems and think-on-your-feet.
  • Willingness to take initiative and make decisions.
Responsibilities

Preparation and handling of food at the specified campus

  • Prepare and cook all meals and ensure the meals are produced as per food preparation requirements.
  • Ensure meals at the campus are produced on time, and sufficient quantities are available for the various areas.
  • Ensure that learners with allergies are listed in the kitchen, are identified in their respective classes, and served with substituted meal options.
  • Assures the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment at the specified campus; identifies equipment needs for food preparation and submits the request to the Head Chef.

Supervise the campus kitchen staff

  • Supervise the campus cooks and kitchen steward and ensure they are aware of their duties and what is expected of them.
  • Give staff feedback on their performance to enable staff development.
  • Ensure any kitchen staffing issues are resolved fairly and quickly.
  • Communicates with the Head Chef regularly regarding kitchen operations, and reports problems.
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety and Health and Safety Legislations and ensure that all campus staff have a valid medical examination certificate.

Manage campus kitchen stock

  • Participate in the planning of the meals menu and manage stock levels of all kitchen supplies at the campus.
  • Assist in preparation of the food budgets and other kitchen equipment and supplies.
  • Verify in-campus deliveries and ensure that the orders are correct and conform to the necessary quality.
  • Ensure that stock is rotated correctly (First In First Out) to prevent foodstuff from expiring.
  • Ensure wastage is minimised by careful supervision of food preparation methods.
  • Maintains records of kitchen equipment, supplies, and inventory at the allocated campus

Maintain the safety and hygiene of the campus kitchen and dining area

  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness within the kitchen and dining areas at all times.
  • Ensure proper hygienic storage methods are utilised to prevent food loss.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is functional and report on any repairs needed. Include ppe
