Who We Are and What We Do

EnerGrow is an appliance financing start-up based in Uganda. We partner with On and Off Grid energy companies to help people purchase productive use appliances to increase their incomes which they could not normally afford.

EnerGrow partners with energy companies to do this in the communities they are expanding into. Why? Hundreds of millions of people across Africa have expensive on- and off-grid electricity connections that are barely used. Customers can afford power, but they cannot afford productive use appliances that could help them earn an income.

This situation both leaves energy companies across Africa economically challenged while their customers remain stuck in an unnecessary poverty trap. Energy companies are slow to expand into rural areas and cannot provide good services even in urban areas because so many customers consume so little that the energy companies often struggle to afford to maintain their infrastructure.

EnerGrow’s data-driven asset finance helps accelerate rural electrification and improve rural energy services while at the same time increasing rural peoples’ incomes.

About the Role


EnerGrow has finished its pilot phase and is quickly growing, but is still very much a start-up. We therefore have a culture of experimentation, idea generation, hard work, and chipping in wherever help is needed on the team. We currently manage several donor-supported projects all driving EnerGrow towards becoming a sustainable asset financing business. We are trialling different distribution models, KYC processes, asset categories for our sales, and we are building out our internal systems and processes while expanding geographically.


We anticipate adding 2-3 locations in Uganda by the end of the year with operations or distribution partnerships across them. The National Sales Manager will be responsible for: 1) refining and unifying a credit-centered national approach to new customer acquisition across all EnerGrow operations; 2) managing and supporting branch managers to innovate and deliver on asset financing sales targets, with a focus on quality customers who will repay; 3) ensuring learnings on successes / challenges around the organization are shared and enshrined in the work of all sales staff; 4) travelling to offices around the country to ensure teams are supported and unified with EnerGrow’s mission and ways of working.



The National Sales Manager should be highly motivated to build things, be innovative in thought and action, and have very strong people management skills. We expect the National Sales Manager to inspire his or her team to deliver on the goals of the business and drive significant impact across Uganda.

What you will make happen

● Drive continuous improvement of sales of asset financing to high quality customers across the key verticals of general small business, agro-processing, cooking and vehicles (bodas).

● Management of sales / credit teams and execution on all verticals across multiple regions.

● Develop an effective strategy for Sales and Marketing that exactly maps in-market realities.

● Ensure they follow through on Teams Performance and Profit generation by overseeing all regional Sales Managers, and refinement and application of incentive structures for sales team

● Highly mobile- the National Sales Manager should have the ability to interact regularly with the Sales Managers.

● Ability to take on multiple responsibilities within the commercial space and ability to execute well through people.

● People Management and team building based on sales performance, mentoring and professional development support

● A National Sales Manager must be able to set targets and ensure they are meant.

● Have great relationships with People across all levels

● A National Sales Manager will have a “Disruptive” mind of challenging the status quo

● He must be able to maintain and recruit Sales Staff for his/her various teams, and putting them through the required on-boarding process

● Willingness for self-development to continuously

● The Role has also to be highly knowledgeable with Computer applications, specifically the G- suite.
