Role Overview

Under the guidance of the Coordination Director and direct supervision of the UN Coordination Advisor, the Inter-Agency Support and Coordination Specialist supports gender mainstreaming across the UN system. The role focuses on implementing the UN System-Wide Action Plan (UN-SWAP) and UNCT-SWAP Gender Equality Scorecard, monitoring and reporting results, managing knowledge/digital platforms, and supporting divisional planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Framework Implementation & Technical Support: Provide guidance and Help Desk services for UN-SWAP and UNCT-SWAP; support inter-agency workshops; develop gender equality guidance; and integrate UN 2.0 approaches (data, digitalization/AI, innovation).
  • Monitoring & System-Wide Reporting: Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of annual reporting data; contribute to entity-level feedback, the Secretary-General’s annual report on gender mainstreaming, and position papers for intergovernmental bodies.
  • Knowledge Management & Capacity Building: Manage the UN/UNCT-SWAP online reporting platform and Knowledge Hub; develop communication materials; and collaborate with UN entities to deliver capacity-building initiatives and webinars.
  • Programme Support & Coordination: Contribute to annual work plans, budget monitoring, and resource mobilization; supervise support staff and interns; and represent UN Women in inter-agency task forces as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in gender issues, social sciences, economics or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Qualifications/Training in data analysis, data research, and/or knowledge management is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience in gender equality and women’s empowerment, including experience in inter-agency coordination and/or gender mainstreaming, is required.
  • Experience supporting capacity-building related to gender mainstreaming is required.
  • Experience in using digital technologies and/or online collaboration tools to support inter-agency coordination or gender mainstreaming initiatives is required.
  • Relevant experience in the UN Common System is required.
  • Relevant experience at the international level is desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
