Education, Skills and Experience
Must have:
- A Diploma in Laboratory Science, Applied Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least 3 years of work experience in a similar role.
- Computer literacy and proficiency in inventory management systems and basic computer applications.
- Knowledge of laboratory chemicals, consumables, and stores management procedures.
- Strong organizational, record-keeping and reporting skills.
Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed records of purchases.
- Enter all chemicals, glassware and other lab consumables received into the computerized inventory.
- Forecast and maintain inventory levels of commonly used consumables and minor equipment to meet departmental needs.
- Maintain a stockroom of chemical supplies and apparatus to ensure availability of requested items.
- Record inventoried laboratory items in logbooks, stock cards, or computerized systems to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Compile reports of issuance and expenditures.
- Check incoming goods against delivery notes with respect to quantity, condition and specifications.
- Place goods according to designated storage locations and safety requirements.
- Maintain accuracy between physical stock balances and inventory records in the system.
- Conduct periodic stock taking and prepare stock reports and reconciliations.
- Ensure adequate stock levels and prevent stock-outs of laboratory supplies.
- Report inadequacies, damages or delays in supplies to the Principal Laboratory Technologist.
- Observe safety procedures in handling and storage of laboratory chemicals and materials.
- Perform any other duty as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
