Background
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. In Kenya, GIZ has been working for 43 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and for other international donors. GIZ is also working in Somalia on sectors such as infrastructural development, food and nutrition and better migration management. The projects and programmes are managed from GIZ’s country office in Kenya.
The Better Migration Management (BMM) program aims to improve migration governance in the region, and in particular to curb the trafficking of human beings and the smuggling of migrants within and from the Horn of Africa. BMM is implemented by GIZ in partnership with IOM, UNODC, CIVIPOL and British Council. The programme is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government. To facilitate the implementation of the BMM program, GIZ is recruiting a Kenyan Intern to be based in Nairobi under the supervision of the BMM Regional Coordinator to assist in BMM implementation in Kenya.

A. Responsibilities
The program intern is responsible for:
Supporting the GIZ BMM team members in Kenya and Somalia in program implementation mainly in Kenya, but with possible tasks relating to Somalia or
the region.Gaining experience in development programme implementation and professional work and project management skills.
Conducting research and writing project concepts/proposals/reports as required.
Supporting coordination and communication activities with programme stakeholders
In this context, the Intern may conduct any or all of the following tasks:

The intern:
- Supports the organisation of program activities
- Supports the design and implementation of online trainings on migration-related topics
- Drafts communication products for project partners and stakeholders
- Conducts research in support of programme activities
- Drafts meeting minutes and reports
- Practices presentation skills and communication with partners
- Where possible, conducts an individual work project and presents the final result
- Learns professional office and team skills
- Takes advantage of training opportunities offered within the programme or the organisation
- Performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management.
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience.
Qualifications
A recent bachelor's degree in social sciences, Politics, Law or other relevant field with
graduation no longer than 12 months ago, orCurrently enrolled in post-graduate study, which required an internship as part of the
course.
D. Professional experience
- Experience and/or interest in migration, displacement or other development challenges.
- Previous work or volunteer experience is an advantage

- Good communications skills and attention to detail
- Results-oriented and intellectually curious
- Professional attitude and comportment
- Values diversity and appreciates working in a multicultural environment
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Solid skills using common office IT application (Microsoft).
F. Timing and Duration of Assignment
The duration of the internship will be 6 months
G. Duty station
The interns will be based in GIZ Offices in Nairobi
