Background
Sun4Water is a program implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusamenarbeit (GIZ) and financed by the German Climate and Technology Initiative (DKTI) through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It contributes to the joint international, multi-donor initiative Water and Energy for Food (WE4F).
The Sun4Water program promotes the development and dissemination of climate-friendly, energy- and water-efficient solar-powered irrigation systems (SPIS) and through its holistic, multiscale approach:
Contributes to increasing agricultural productivity and food security, strengthening resilience of smallholder farmers in the agri-food value chain.
Supports educational institutions and MSMEs through capacity building, business development, improved access to finance and cross sectoral dialogues.
Promotes sustainable use of SPIS technologies and mainstreams them in political frameworks and processes.
Additionally, Sun4Water aims at further developing and adapting the existing SPIS toolbox as well as creating a SPIS Knowledge Network.
The program implements capacity development activities at the micro, meso and macro levels across 6 WE4F countries in East and West Africa including Mali, Niger, Togo, Malawi, Kenya and Ethiopia. The implementation process is carried out in cooperation with GIZ partner projects.

A. Summary of responsibilities
The key responsibility of the intern is to support the technical team to ensure delivery of the various technical mandates of the program.
The Intern will perform the following tasks:
With the guidance and assistance of the technical team, the candidate contributes with
his/her technical background to the thematic focus of the program, the nexus of water, energy,
and food production/processing.
Specific fields include solar powered irrigation, solar cooling, solar milling, circular water economy and others. The candidate will ensure the below tasks are dispensed:
Supporting the technical advisors in designing and implementing the database management tools for various operations being implemented by the program.
Designs and develop field data collection tools for pilots and field sites that have been set up by the program.
Undertake field data collection, measurement and verification using approved tools,
methodologies, and approaches.
Provide analysis and develop presentation on technical data sets and information provided by the team or collected by self.
Engage technical partners on various issues including database creation, data aggregation as guided or instructed by the technical team.
Design, develop, proofread, and edit technical factsheets, blogs and summaries on topics or materials identified/provided by the technical team.
Participate in identified forums and meetings and develop summaries and/or minutes of the same.
Assist in other technical and administrative duties upon request.
B. Qualifications/ requirements Qualifications
Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in energy technology, computer science, ICT, engineering, or related fields
Background experience in techno-economic data collection, analysis, and presentation
Excellent command of English and Kiswahili.
Additional competences
High proficiency in the use of ICT technologies and computer applications, especially MS Excel
Excellent communication skills
Strong organizational competence
Able to work in a multicultural environment.
Good coordination competencies and ability to multitask.
F. Timing and Duration of Assignment
The duration of the internship will be 6 months
G. Duty station
The interns will be based in GIZ Offices in Nairobi
