Contract Type:

Full time, Fixed term

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic and the accompanying global economic lockdown has created a massive disruption in the economic status of people across the world. Millions of enterprises face an existential threat. Nearly half of the world’s 3.3 billion global workforce are at risk of losing their livelihoods. Informal Economy workers are particularly vulnerable because of the lack of social protection and access to quality health care which has led to lost access to productive assets; With no means to earn an income during lockdown, many are unable to feed themselves and their families. Hence the need for a rapid intervention to tackle the rising poverty level and help boost economic recovery.

In Nigeria, there are 41,543,028 enterprises designated as Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs) accounting for 99.8%, 0.17%, and 0.004% respectively with Lagos, Osun, and Oyo as the top states with the highest number of SMEs (NBS, 2017). The Government-imposed partial and total lockdowns largely affected this sector by causing limited access to inputs at the local markets, difficulty in exporting and importing goods, and affecting investment. It is evident that the direct effects of the pandemic come through low coping strategies, income losses, and reduced investment.

The October 2020 Needs Assessment on “Returnee and Start-Up Support during and beyond the COVID-19 Pandemic” provides insight on the effect of the pandemic on several businesses and individuals in three states in Nigeria which closely align with the results from the needs assessment carried out by Impact Hub from support programs done post-pandemic . Based on this need, we seek an intervention to tackle the rising poverty level and boost economic recovery across 3 states in Nigeria - Lagos, Edo (Benin), and FCT (Abuja).

Position Summary

Do you have deep experience in career coaching( soft and digital skills required for the work place) business strategy ,growth and development that you believe is relevant to the Impact Hub Community?

Are you interested in joining us for 4-6 months volunteering as a remote mentor for a Skill Empowerment and Business Support Program?
