Job Overview
As a Pastry Chef, you will be the hotel’s kitchen-professional specialized in the making of pastries, desserts, breads and other baked goods. We are looking for an  experienced Pastry Chef to prepare a variety of desserts, pastries or other sweet  goods for the Hotel. Your skill in baking high quality treats should be matched by  your passion, work ethic and creativity to develop new amazing tastes and recipes.

Your main duties shall include following recipes to create world-class pastries,  cookies and other baked goods, developing new and unique recipes to feature on  the menu, keeping stock of the kitchen’s inventory and leading a team of pastry  assistants among others

About Skyz Hotel
Located on top of Naguru Hill, the hotel offers world class accommodation and  conferencing facilities, an on-site fine dining restaurant with a well-stocked bar and  4 rooftop bars that offer panoramic views of Kampala. 

The hotel has a swimming pool area with its own dedicated bar. The hotels has 2  conference halls on site both with a capacity of 120 people, the famous Skyz Deck  which can seat 300 people and 13 ultra-modern boardrooms fully equipped with  the latest equipment. 

Protea Hotel Skyz currently has 141 rooms ranging from standard rooms to the  presidential suite. Guests on club floors get to enjoy the Club Lounge which is  perfect for private meetings and small discussions. The hotel has an onsite  company that facilitates guests’ transfers at an extra charge.

    • A Bachelors degree in culinary arts, a relevant degree majoring in pastry making, baking or a degree in a relevant field

  • A diploma in a related field with 4 years of experience in the role of Pastry Chef in a 4-star hotel

  • Essential  Experience and  Knowledge

    • Minimum of 5 years experience in the hospitality industry, with an emphasis  on Pastry arts- preferably as a Pastry Chef

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role preferably as a pastry chef 3. In-depth knowledge of the food industry.

  • Proven experience in pastry arts in a 4 star hotel

  • Marriot International Training is an added advantage

  • Strong working knowledge of related computer software, including restaurant management software.

    • To take the lead for the Pastry section preparing a wide variety of baked goods  (cakes, pastries, desserts, pies, bread etc.) following both traditional and  modern recipes
    • Understand Guest’s preferences and make suggestions based on those findings

    • Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings so that they are appealing to  the eye
    • Ensure hygiene and maintain the station while practicing exceptional safety,  food-best-practices and organizational skills.

  • Plan the menu of desserts and pastry to complement savory items 6. Come up with recipe ideas from scratch and putting them to effective use at  the hotel

  • Maintain up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients 8. Monitor, maintain and or order relevant equipment

  • Develop new seasonal recipes and menus and keep up with the latest trends 10. Lead, guide and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently 11. Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make  appropriate orders within budget
