Description
Provide professional and compassionate nursing services and high-quality care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.
Person Specification
- BScN or Diploma in Nursing. Higher Diploma in Nursing is an added advantage
- A valid Nursing License from NCK
- Valid certification in BLS, ACLS and Critical Care Nursing Certification
- 2+ years’ experience working in a busy environment.
- Customer focus and results oriented
- Strong interpersonal skills, team playing abilities, and communication skills.
- Highly responsive, ethical and responsible
Responsibilities
- Work with the Clinical team to navigate patients through the treatment journey, to help address underlying medical conditions, and provide treatment as per plan, ensuring all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
- Manage patients requiring advanced life support interventions such as mechanical ventilation, vasoactive infusions, dialysis, etc., and continuously monitor and interpret vital signs using advanced monitoring systems and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Assist in and manage complex procedures at the bedside, including intubation, central line insertions, chest tube insertion, and peritoneal dialysis, and Titrate IV infusions (e.g., inotropes, vasopressors, insulin drips, sedatives) according to prescribed parameters and ICU protocols.
- Maintain up-to-date ICU charts and flow sheets, including hourly input/output monitoring, pressure area assessments, sedation scores, and ventilator settings.
- Manage end-of-life care with empathy and professionalism, including withdrawal of care, comfort measures, and supporting family through difficult decisions.
- Maintain patient safety and ICU-specific competency and certification such as ACLS & BLS, and Critical Care Nursing certification, and ensure patient safety following IPSG.
- Actively participate in patient admission, ward rounds, receive handover reports from the outgoing nurse on shift, while ensuring all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent.
- Effectively manage patient data and records.
- Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy, and observe the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.
- Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrate growth by managing costs and ensuring proper pre-authorization and documentation is done.
- Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
- Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services i.e. Admission & discharge, nurses’ reports, equipment and supplies, etc.
- Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Supervise PAs as per their job description.
