The Group Finance Manager we are looking for needs to have excellent interpersonal skills to play a pivotal role in developing and executing the finance strategy, working alongside and advising the senior leadership team and actively engaging with the wider business to bring about change/ efficiency to deliver results.

You will report to the Group Managing Director/ Board of Directors and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.


Responsibilities

The Group Finance Manager we are looking for needs to have excellent interpersonal skills to play a pivotal role in developing and executing the finance strategy, working alongside and advising the senior leadership team and actively engaging with the wider business to bring about change/ efficiency to deliver results.

You will report to the Group Managing Director/ Board of Directors and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.


  • Set up Finance & Accounting Systems and Standards for the Group.

  • Oversee the Finance & Accounting function of the Group including payroll, invoicing etc.

  • Oversee Financial and Accounting system controls and standards used by the Group.

  • Ensures timely provision of Group financial and statistical reports for management, including particular cash flow statements. And interpreting them for senior management and recommending further courses of action.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports.

  • Ensuring that all accounting functions are accurately and effectively fulfilled.

  • Advising on investment activities and provide strategies that the company should take (i.e. developing long term business plans).

  • Set goals and objectives for the Finance Department and design a framework on how this is to be met.

  • Working with Subsidiary heads and subsidiary Finance Managers to prepare budgets, forecasts and other financial plans.

  • Working with all Subsidiary heads to ensure that their individual budgets are managed for the most effective and efficient use of financial resources.

  • Analyse actual Group performance against budgets that have been set.

  • Prepare trends and projections for the Group’s finances.

  • Liaison with the Subsidiaries to ensure that there is prudent financial management; that they maintain necessary facilities with the banks and that such facilities are competitively priced.

  • Liaison with external auditors to ensure that audits are properly planned, carried out and that financial reports are prepared within set timelines.

  • To collaborate and coordinate the activities of outside suppliers of financial services hired or contracted by the Group, including accountants, auditors, financial consultants etc.

  • Support project analysis, validation of plans and ad-hoc requests.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.

  • To carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Group Directors.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Finance Manager/Director.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in accounting and/or financial analysis.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

  • Professional qualification such as CFA/CPA or similar will be considered a plus.

  • Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations.

  • A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles.

Key Competencies

  • Managerial experience.

  • Experience of managing numerous financial operations / subsidiaries.

  • Corporate governance experience.

  • Ability to plan, co-ordinate, motivate and control staff and activities in line with their duties.

  • Ability to work and effectively communicate with senior management

  • Ability to synthesize large quantities of complex data into actionable information.

  • Knowledge of financial reporting and data mining tools.

  • Strong demonstrated use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent business judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to stick to time constraints.

  • Self-motivated and ability to achieve set goals.

  • Team player.
